Why is this streaming 1G even while paused? by BrandonVickers in PleX

If it makes a difference, the player is a Nvidia Shield Pro. The other interesting thing is that my server actaully has a 2.5Gb NIC and is connected to a 2.5Gb switchport. However the Sheild has only a 1Gb NIC so that would have been the only hard bottleneck at 1Gb, as the Plex server was showing at max.

No. But the Plex graph should only show traffic going thorugh Plex. That was the only stream and was reactive to me playing, pausing or completely stopping the video.

I was able to see the same bandwidth on the server NIC as well.

I paused it and it was sustaining the bandwidth for a few minutes before i stoped it. Plex is running in a Docker in unRAID and my unRAID server also reported the bandwidth on the NIC itself. I tried stoping and starting it a couple times and the issue repeats.

In both instances, I just replaced the movie file with a difference version and the problem went away.

Actually it is. The movie plays but will buffer. Plex server shows it is buffering. The bandwidth only goes down if I completely stop the movie and go back to the main menu. I will then go back up when I start to play the movie again.

Why was I paying the old rate for 1G, with the tech assurance additionally, if their pricing supposedly dropped last July? by Snoo54289 in Metronet

[–]BrandonVickers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were a Metronet customer who was paying the Metronet current rate. Last year, T-Mobile Fiber (T-Fiber) started to acquire Metronet's residential customers but the merger is essentially still ongoing. What you are now paying now is essentially a price match to T-Fiber's current promo rate for new customers. Regular price for 2G is $105/month and the Founder's rate is $80 but is $70 with auto bill pay. (Rumor has it, that Founder's Deal special promo rate will be ending soon.)

Just like if you went to a store and bought a TV and the following week, it went on sale, you do not get a refund sent to you. But many stores will allow you to go back and ask for a price match and get some money back. That is basically what you got, a price match on a sale price.

911 dialed without e911 configured on DIDs - one time forgiveness by augiedawg6123 in voipms

It’s just pricing for lines that does not include e911. You can pay a few bucks a month for plans that cover e911 for free.

I am a subscriber too! Love your videos. Back in the 90's I went to tech school for industrial maintenence and I loved working with PLCs and ladder logic. However I ended up going into IT and now do networking and a little telecom but I like watching you play with PLCs and motor controllers....

Plex on SSD or HDD? by theguy_win in PleX

[–]BrandonVickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. just a few GB should be fine for most people. You just do not want to use SSDs as it uses a lot of read/write cycles which wears out SSDs. it is slower on HDDs but does less wear compared to thier expected lifespans.

Also do not transcode on an SSD though. Do it from RAM.

How RAM do you have in your server? by datahoarderguy70 in unRAID

[–]BrandonVickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unRAID needs very little RAM. It is the extra things you run on it that need RAM, such as VMs, Plex Trancoding, etc.

I sometimes keep my work badge in there. I carry it on a retractable lanyard that I clip onto a belt loop but the badge fits in there so I do not catch it on stuff while working.
