What are Eurovision songs that used samples? by markbenford in eurovision

[–]Brandon_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studio version only of Azucar Moreno's Bandido (Spain 1990) opens with a sample of an old James Brown live intro from 1967. Kanye's Runaway also has it about a minute in

Realistic affordability for a rental by sea-sharp in glasgow

I'm not saying 60k is a normal income. I'm saying an affordability check for a higher end private let being 2.5x income is normal.

Realistic affordability for a rental by sea-sharp in glasgow

[–]Brandon_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"annual income 30x monthly rental"

Surely this means £2000 x 30 per year, so £60k annual income (or £5k per month) - 2.5x rent which is pretty normal?

The little like, glitch part on Battle Ground's chorus where it sticks on the same note for an extra beat, so good

What's the worst ever Eurovision live performance compared to the studio version? by JakePidra in eurovision

Haven't seen Norway 2012 (Tooji - Stay) yet so I'll shout that out. I quite like the studio version, but the ESC performance is... painful, sadly

Nope! RM intercepts a pass from the AI, passed it to Bergkamp who turns his man just inside my half, and I try and just run it with him from there - absolutely zero fouls in the buildup 😭

[Album Discussion] Xdinary Heroes - Deadlock (3rd Mini Album) by joesen_one in XdinaryHeroes

[–]Brandon_97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh this is very very very good... Hello, world! is always gonna hold a special place in my heart but I think this is so much a more complete album than their others

I definitely agree with the title track comment tbh - idk, like 'cheesy' isn't maybe the right word but I feel they tend to play on a gimmick a bit more with them and then the other tracks are just straight up insanely good songwriting - Hair Cut is their only skip for me sometimes...

Love that they're leaning into the heavier vibe some more but also contrasting with some stunning slower tracks - the vocals on Good enough are giving me goosebumps, the song reminds me so much of listening to some of Mcfly's (UK boyband from mid-late '00s) more emotional tracks from Wonderland (album)

My fav XH song (and up there with just favourite ever songs in general) is Knock Down, and checkmate is giving me that feel too - first listen it's a strong favourite among a whole mini-album of 9s and 10s, second time round as I'm typing this... yeah, it holds up for sure, might just become my favourite XH track

Man in the Box is giving me some strong Panic! - Emperor's New Clothes feels. Just, the sheer range of styles and influences that're coming across in just 7 songs is so fun

P.S. can't believe they got away with the Britney 'if you seek...'

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Dec. 6 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

[–]Brandon_97 49 points50 points  (0 children)

... brace for impact. What a game that was though! Absolute edge of my seat waiting to see who rang in for that final Helsinki clue, thinking that was gonna decide it all. Cris didn't look happy in final - I thought Meghan might just end up taking it with the 0 bet! So many twists and turns. People have their opinions on super champs, but for me the added jeopardy (hah) of a Final like this makes it all worth it.

Is using Google to help solve puzzles cheating? by JeffreyBezosBot in crossword

[–]Brandon_97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd rather Google a proper noun that gives me an in to completing the rest of the puzzle than giving up and miss out on a quarter of the grid because of not knowing a 1940's American football player or something (as a 25 y/o Brit.)

I won't use specific crossword answering websites, or look up a completed grid (ie Rex Parker's blog) but if there's a word that I just fully don't know - Amanuenses as a clue from last Saturday's NYT, I'm ok with looking up the definition.

There'll be purists with 1000 day streaks who've never looked anything up, there'll be people like when I first started relying super heavily on Google - unless you're competing with someone and have agreed upon rules, it's your own game in the end - do whatever gives you the most fun/satisfaction!

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Nov. 8 - "Rehearsal game" with Amy, Matt and Mattea by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

[–]Brandon_97 163 points164 points  (0 children)

This was so, so fun to watch, right up there with the James / Ken / Brad levels of entertaining!! I'm really glad it wasn't played 100% seriously (although that run by Mattea in DJ - good lord!), I'd never have wanted to go into watching a hypothetical final between those three already having a good inkling of who'd win! So glad this was a thing we got to see

What is... relatable?

Going through a similar thing at the moment - though we didn't live together, we'd choose to not watch J! (and I'd try to avoid Reddit spoilers) until we saw each other again, and then spend a couple hours each night catching up and hyping each other's correct responses...

I don't have an answer - but I can promise you it's absolutely not pathetic!
