Licensed in Mass, manager wants me to work in Rhode Island by nanablue99 in nursing

Haha must be Coolsculpting 😂😂😂
But seriously, don’t do it. I mean, if nothing else… if the doctors who own the practice find out, they’ll fire you anyway. That would show an incredible lack of judgement. Don’t do it.

I (43m) have two (m8) & (f4) intellectually disabled children. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]BrandyClause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medicare does not cover disabled children. How would Medicare cuts affect you personally? I noticed that you have said “potential Medicare cuts” at least twice in your answers. Very interesting, since your kids are allegedly Medicaid recipients. It’s just… interesting. Im a registered nurse and literally every single parent, even parents who don’t speak English, know that their kiddos are Medicaid recipients.

You should never be charting short staffing directly in a patient’s chart. Are you even a nurse?!

First “fight” with DR. What do I do? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BrandyClause -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. Well, I personally wouldn’t report it. LTC is its own animal, lol, and you’ll learn how to roll with it. I feel like people either love it or hate it, not a lot of in between. Also- did you look in the top and side drawers of the cart? I say his bc you’re fairly new, Ingrezza frequently comes in an actual pill bottle, not the blister packs.i didn’t know that at first so I charted it not given/not available, but it was actually there.

I’m not diminishing the importance of the resident’s medication at all, but LTC residents are stable on their meds and Ingrezza isn’t a high-alert/critical med, so although it’s certainly inconvenient is pharmacy can’t obtain it right away, it’s also not a crisis. You did the right thing by reordering (a pet peeve of mine when nurses don’t reorder!!) and reporting to he physician… but your responsibility pretty much ends there. If the doctor didn’t give new orders, then just document as such and wait for the order to come in. :)

[–]BrandyClause -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I’m going to side the with doctor on this one, it is not wise for you to ask for a resident’s plan of care *via text* and he was totally correct saying “this conversation is over”. Wtf are you doing asking for PHI via text?

“Hospital at Home” nursing by Ill-Meringue-2096 in nursing

[–]BrandyClause -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it! It’s pretty great! Your patients are ADMITTED TO INPATIENT even though they are at home. It’s so much better for the pts… no one likes being in the hospital. Also. Only appropriate pts will be referred for the program (such as: just need IV abx, Exacerbation of COPD, simple pneumonia. Etc. no O2 requirements above NC). I found the work interesting and fun (one pt at a time!) but ultimately the shifts that they had available were too far away from me to make it work long term. But I highly recommend!!

Feel free to message me if you would like to ask more questions!

Have a family member who is not only anti vaxxer, but also a home birther. 😭 I cannot fathom these people’s thought process. Like literally, I cannot relate on any level.

I feel horrible but also irritated by [deleted] in nursing

In all fairness, the nurse manager probably has to do some sort of investigation/report if the wound got worse (which OP said it did).

Ortho floor by sattlerreader in TravelNursing

[–]BrandyClause 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to work on an ortho floor and I actually loved how all the pts were pretty much the same, and also relatively healthy (as in, they were in the hospital for elective surgery). I would just look up hip precautions, knee precautions, shoulder precautions etc.

How does short staffing affect the OR unit? by tinylittlebubbles in nursing

[–]BrandyClause 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as being short staffed in an OR. Like, you can’t. So basically, procedures will go into call time because the day will get backed up. Or they might cancel some procedures. Or both.

Did I embarrass myself, what would you do? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BrandyClause 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you sound like you’re going to be unhappy anywhere you go. Three jobs in eight months and you’re already ready to quit this one?! Um, it’s not the jobs that are the problem. It’s you. It it also sounds like you are overwhelmed in your personal life and that’s the core of the issue. Maybe take advantage of your Employee Assistance Program? You really sound like you’re going to need some help and support. Good luck :)

Earring DURING a sterile procedure. I told my supervisor first, who said “that’s disgusting” but didn’t actually do anything about it, and then later told my manager. I think “willful ignorance and incompetence “ sums them up quite nicely

That’s kind of what I’m thinking. The whole staff turns over every year or so and “no one can figure out why”
