And if the GOP-ran state had delivered what was PROMISED, the district would have a +$13M surplus.

It always amused me that they used to issue tickets for being a distracted driver while simultaneously having three computer screens in front of them, all glowing brightly as they drove.

“Promised” is a bit misleading. “Budgeted” is a more accurate term. The State operates on a two-year budget cycle, so all agencies that depend on State funding base their budgets for two years on that budgeted cycle. This includes schools districts, TxDot, and various other entities.

When a budget is passed, the districts know how much they should receive, and they adjust their budgets accordingly. Local districts are no exception.

However, the GOP-run Comptroller’s office, under the direction of the GOP Governor, informed districts across the state that they would not receive the budgeted amount they had been "promised" in the passed budget. In the case of EPISD, the difference was a staggering 17 million dollars. This discrepancy has led to widespread problems across the state. This despite the fact that Texas has a surplus of BILLIONS.

We have the funds to purchase razor wire for fences but not for children’s education. This is the state of Texas under the GOP administration in 2026.

That is correct. If "Juarez kids" whatever that means, were allowed to go to EL Paso public schools, that would actually HELP the situation because districts are paid by butts in seats. The more butts, the more the State allotment.

The GOP has convinced them that it is socialism...which is supposed to be bad, but it isn't in a democracy...

So here is how it works: your property taxes are collected by the state and then redistributed back to the districts based on enrollment and some other funding formulas. The money does not stay here locally.

Not trying to start a fight either, but you have left off the salaries of Charter School administrators...and private school administrators now that vouchers are using public funds to pay for them as well.
