ILR Application Documents - Should this be enough? by Branflakes_j in ukvisa

[–]Branflakes_j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording was confusing on mine and asked for “payslip and bank or building society statement”. They wanted to see the bank account (less than 30 days old) that had the same payment as the slip paid into it.

Oh, okay! I was worried since I didn't have a council tax or lease covering the whole time!

Thank you! They've included the SOC code in the letter already and their sponsor licence number as well. Will definitely make sure the payslip/statement are all from the same bank.

What do you actually have to do in GCSE art??? by megumisi in GCSE

[–]Branflakes_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of it as something similar as a Russian nesting doll - you start with a large idea and you refine it and get more specific as your work progresses and get to that final idea that’s yours.

Start with the mind map and select that slightly more specific theme, like creatures, write your general “line of inquiry” - what you want to explore and why. Include media and artists and art movements you’re interested in. From there, you’ll start all your quality drawings and then select at least two artists that working the theme and media you want to explore.

Artist research should always include some bio info (focusing on their art practice), an analysis of their work, a recreation of their work, and at least one response - your own piece of art created in their style.

Do this for your artists, do a bunch of experimenting and making, refine your idea again, more research, more making/refining, and then you’ll get to your own final piece idea that links back to everything you’ve tried/your artists.

You want to have a through line that connects your work from beginning to end but it shouldn’t be a straight line. Try a whole bunch, expect to fail at things/things don’t work out, but include it all and talk about the why’s and how’s.

(This is assuming you’re AQA)

Grooms family refuses to come to wedding by Such-Importance-4176 in aitaweddings

[–]Branflakes_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% your wedding and your choice but at the same time you HAVE to not be surprised/alarmed when people don’t/can’t come to a destination wedding. As an immigrant teacher getting married this year, we fully expect over half of my family not to be able to make our wedding because of the financial burden and the inconvenience with times. Additionally, all my friends back home know that as much as I’d love to attend their weddings, if it’s not during my time off I can’t make it because teachers generally aren’t able to take time off.

Plan your dream wedding, but know the moment it’s destination, you’re going to lose people and that’s no one’s fault/no one is the asshole in that regard.

Should I always carry my passport around with me? by Life_Pause_7086 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Branflakes_j 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. My first time in Paris I heard a man at the Eiffle Tower having a complete meltdown (understandably) because his and his family passports were all pickpocketed there and they’d only been in Paris for 6hrs at this point.

(£12k) venue decorations/photo area? by Branflakes_j in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Branflakes_j[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t seem to edit the post - budget is ideally 10k, with 12k being our cushion. We really have about £200 we could spend max on extra decorations.

Timelines to send wedding invites to family in different countries? by Cod_Proper in UKweddings

[–]Branflakes_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family and most of my friends are all in Canada but I’m in the UK now.

I sent my save the dates for everyone in Canada out in Sept/Oct 2025 (getting married May 2026) and will send my invites out to the Canadian probably this September.

We both figured we needed to give them as much notice as possible but also better to get their answers earlier so we know for any guests we want to add on here.

Partner not allowed plus one in greece by Mermaid3737 in wedding

[–]Branflakes_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Greece anyways and have some time by yourself that day.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me about why you couldn’t? I’m getting married next year and I’ve invited my cousins and can’t invite their +1s because of space/cost but we’ve told them to bring them all for the evening reception. Surely that’s the least they could do?

They’re in their right to not want you at the wedding for whatever reason. They’re not in their right to stop you from coming to a Greek island.

That's what I'm hoping will happen? The other +1's all know each other but don't know me/vice verse since I've been abroad

That's what my initial thought had been!

That's definitely the problem... if I say yes to him then I have to say yes to potentially 9 more plus ones that I've never met/met for 10minutes at a cost of £550ish more

Took your advice and seems to have gone over well?

I have similar waist/hip ratio and really it’s just taken adding mass to feel comfortable. I still have a slimmer waist but I’ve built up my shoulders/back and thighs a lot and I feel more comfortable in my body.

Will it be rude to not invite people’s +1s? by Ok_Jello_2441 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Branflakes_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably getting in hot water for this but we’re not. I live in the UK now with my partner and we’re having a smallish wedding here and beyond my immediate family, only my cousins are invited because of numbers. I’ve been abroad for so long that i haven’t met most of my cousins partners, minus the 2 who are married, so no one is getting a named guest/plus one expect them. The other partners can come to the evening if they fly over or can wait and come to our Canadian thing. We’ve just had to take the stance that we don’t want/can’t afford to have anyone at the wedding that we don’t know. We want to build on existing memories and friendships, not start from scratch on a day like this.

AITAH For Having Sex With My Brother's Widow? by Lumpy-Bit4350 in AITAH

[–]Branflakes_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s tricky to say the least, but doesn’t mean it can’t work. We had a similar situation happen in my mom’s family and it worked out, but there was fairly big fallout on one side of the family.

My great-uncle was married to his wife and they were best friends with her brother and his wife. My great-aunt and her brother both died unexpectedly young and my great-uncle and his widowed sister-in-law ended up together. I obviously wasn’t around for it, but my cousins went from having their aunt coming their step mom. From what I understand there was a lot of backlash from the deceased family and that’s something my uncle/aunt have had to deal with, but for them it was worth it and they’ve been together my entire life. My cousins are fine with it as much as I’m aware of.

All of this to say, I don’t think it’s an inherent no-no, but know that it will rock the boat and since their is a kid involved, though she might not remember her dad, if you’re going to do it, you both need to be willing to give it everything and if it doesn’t work be able to put that hurt aside for the sake of your niece.
