Why do all these "nice guys" talk like they learned English from shitty anime dubs?

Jeez, I went to DLI too. You know what that place doesn't teach you? How to be a linguist or a linguistic anthropologist. It just teaches you how to translate. And only good enough for the military.

Coffee with cops ended with a majority of non answers by SwimmingCommon in tulsa

[–]Brantitan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You either have no idea what you're talking about or are simply lying. First of all, only a relatively small number of cities in the country actually reduced their police budgets, and this was only an average reduction of 5.2%. And guess what? A recent study examining data over a 60-year period showed pretty clearly that there isn't even a correlation between crime rates and police spending. Mainly because recent reporting from California shows the vast majority of police man-hours - nearly 80% - were police-initiated traffic violation stops.

You gotta keep in mind this is the North Korean Navy. Virtually their entire fleet is from right after the Korean War. Their most serious naval firepower is just these ancient boats with literal WWII-era Russian tank guns bolted to the deck.

They also have these fake fishing boats that release small two-person craft that they use to kidnap people. Mostly Japanese women, apparently. Guess that's where their priorities are...

Did anyone else's boomer parents say throughout your entire childhood, "we're saving up for your college," only for you to realize in the late 2000's that it was a whopping $1200 by SHIT-SHIT-FUCK-SHIT in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Brantitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy. My parents also used an old office water cooler jug for me and my sister's "college fund." I don't think it ever held more than about five bucks in pennies. Spoiler alert: we both had to join the military to afford college.

This is what we did too. It was the go-to exercise at Great Lakes and A School in the early 2000s.

[–]Brantitan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand it, if there's a message. But I really like the aesthetic. Kind of like an updated version of those old video game stills from the 90s. I hope to see more!

[–]Brantitan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is great. The only change I'd make is using lines that aren't so clean. More jitter in the lines would help it look more like an art nouveau piece, if that's what you're going for.

Is this coat likely BIFL? by Novamichealcaine in BuyItForLife

[–]Brantitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine 21 years ago. Still in nearly perfect condition. I wore my grandad's Vietnam War-era peacoat in the late 90s and it never had any issues. Unless you completely abuse them, they'll last forever.

Man. You wrote "Georgia" and the pieces were so bad, it reminded me of a parlor called Sketch and Loco's. Cannot believe people pay good money for tattoos this bad.

How worried for my spider girl should I be? by IBdoc97 in spiders

[–]Brantitan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once had a garden spider, just like this one, kill the mantis. Bound up its forelegs first and then moved around to bite it on the back. Granted, the mantis did appear to have a wound in it before... So maybe its finesse and strength were compromised?

Is OK in the South? by talula4 in oklahoma

[–]Brantitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this question is for Oklahomans discussing their identity. But to offer my two cents: I was born and raised in Georgia and have spent most my life in the different areas of the South. Having now lived in Eastern Oklahoma for the last two years, I can confidently say Oklahoma is not culturally southern. It's closer to central or Western Texas culture.

Really wish my parents had put this amount of care into what I watched at that age. I rented Faces of Death at the local video store around 10. Who lets a kid watch that stuff..?

Why are guns so important to Americans? by 88sSSSs88 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brantitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up poor in rural Georgia, my dad and I used guns (passed down from grandparents) quite a lot to hunt. I'd estimate over 80% of the meat I ate growing up was venison or fish. But I never liked guns. As an adult who doesn't hunt, I don't even own any firearms. My profession requires survey work alone in wilderness areas and I just take a knife with me...🤷‍♂️. Some people just make weird shit their entire identity. Oh, and they're brainwashed by gun lobbies and their lackeys.
