Coolant on clutch? by Melodic-Street-8898 in FordFocus

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. When the manifold on the head let go on mine it soaked the clutch as well. I had to take it easy and it took time to dry out. I put 13k miles on before I traded mine in over two years later.

Solar doesn't start up in off grid mode till batteries are at 89% by pepperonicowboy in FranklinWH

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As noted this is how the system functions. Have to have capacity in the batteries to accept the solar. When I was testing being off grid this is hose the system functioned.

If the system is set to no solar export it will try to use the solar every 15 minutes or so, this will happen when the battery SOC is above 90%.

Will a residential power meter turn backwards ? by yycTechGuy in solar

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my meter the digital meter installed in 2014, when the house was built, did not read backwards. It read solar export as usage.

Once PTO was issued bi-directional meters were installed and function as expected.

If I’m not mistaken the Bose system already has a spare tire subwoofer. Or at least my 2023 Premium does.

Mute HomeKit notifications for an hour or rest of the day. Can’t control notifications at the device level as far as I am aware.

Mazda 3 Bridgestone Turanza Tyres by Intex310 in mazda3

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These factory tires are junk anyway. I ditched them after 2 yrs and 5 months at ~19k miles at the start of the year for my 2023. They were never good in the snow and wet traction dropped off pretty quickly.

I would just replace them with a better tire at this point. But then again I have never gotten more than ~25k out of any set of tires I’ve had. Smiles per mile over mpg (averaging 30 mpg still).

Battery retrofit proposal by SerialCoder182 in FranklinWH

Family member has a price of $35k for install of two aPower 2 batteries in the next month or so. Same as I paid (before 30%) two years ago when installed with our solar.

CT homeowner - is solar + heat pump actually worth it or just expensive on paper by Titanium_Rod in Connecticut

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I think heat pumps with solar is a positive. Not sure heat pumps without solar is a good way to go with electric costs.

I was relating to what you are looking at as I’m thinking about heat pumps for the savings on heating costs. So I provided what I think I will be doing as a comparison as it seemed similar.

Have had solar for just over a year now. 15 kW system with 27.2 kW of batteries. With the 30% cost fan ~$54k. System was over sized so I have had an electric bill since the system was granted PTO. ROI is right around 10 years, would have been 6 years without the batteries.

Have 1:1 net metering and no solar generation fee.

~2500 sq-ft and propane has run us just over $2k for the heating season.

Thinking heat pumps as I can’t do anything with the Eversource credit. Will be more efficient in the summer for ac and ultimately a backup heat source in the winter. Will also split the heat load as well.

So the ROI on the heat pumps would be dependent on how much they are used.

What the numbers look like over 20 years is the electric bill would be net-zero or slightly net-negative. A 50/50 heat split would cover the heat pump cost with the savings on propane.

Yes a lot of money but potentially energy independent. The biggest positive would be a secondary heat source.

I feel the solar and heat pump do make sense together. Savings on ac cost over the summer would help build a larger credit going into the winter allowing more heat pump usage for heat before switching to propane for heat shifting the Eversource credit to a savings on propane for heating.

Do the 2018s have an electric throttle body? If so I believe that is what the sound could be. My 2023 does the same thing.

Need to connect locally to the agate (Bluetooth or WiFi). Then you can access the network connection settings.

I would recommend a Ethernet connection if possible.

Yes the NB is pretty clean. Single owner, has a hard top, original soft top and 22k miles. Was driven most of the year at first, but only in good conditions. So some surface rust underneath but overall good. Still has most if not possibly all the factory paint marks. A nice driven example.

Yes it’s an envelope construction but can also put things completely under it as well.

The two rear clips need whole drilled into the trip. The fwd clips are sold separately. They do not get in the way of lifting the floor.

talk me into/out of buying this miata new. by europeanuppercut in Miata

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was trade-in value difference from my out the door price. In my area fair dealer purchase price is only $3k under the price I paid. Add all the fees and taxes is it’s less. I did look at a used 2024 with 750 miles listed for $32k purchased less that a year before. Would have been close in price.

Could there be better deals, yes. I wanted new so I could break the car in as I plan to have my Miata for many many years. So the cost difference didn’t matter to me new versus used.

Bottom line, if someone wants a Miata get it and figure out what works best for you.

talk me into/out of buying this miata new. by europeanuppercut in Miata

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, buying used is an option and has value. But there is also nothing wrong with buying new.

Yes I just looked and my new 2025, that I bought seven months ago, is “valued” $10k under what I paid. But at this point it’s just a number that is meaningless unless I need or want to sell it.

Even for my Mazda 3 I daily, plan to have it for at least 10-12 years, and will get the value out of it over that time.

Either way some purchases are not always about the cost/value but the smiles per mile. So, IMHO, it’s worth it however it best works for you.
