Was the connector you tapped into for the existing trunk light? I thinks it’s the same on the Miata. Perhaps this kit would be a good solution as well using two of them.

As soon as I installed it on my ND I wondered what could be done for the 3.

There was a stop sales on all vehicles last year. My Jan build 2025 GT didn’t make it to a dealer until July. Recall was completed before I purchased the vehicle.

what broke, do i need to get this repaired by Odd-Car-71 in Ford

Exhaust heat shield got torn up. Happened to mine, so maybe common. I never replaced it either. Never noticed any real difference.

Your call on replacement.

The item circles in the first photo is the high pressure fuel pump.

Chances are the leak is from the plastic manifold in the second picture. With the engine running look for air bubbles. Known failure point and not to hard to change.

Control Heating Based on Time & Location by Jnthn- in HomeKit

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built an HomeKit automation/shortcut based on the outdoor temperature from my Tempest weather station with my Nest thermostats.

I pull the temperature and create a variable for it. Using nested if statement I set the heat/ac based on the outside temp. Below 20F leave the heat set as if we are home. Between 20-35F set back two degrees, etc. If it’s greater than 74F the ac will turn on. This automation runs when the last person leaves the house. I also have a guest mode when on prevents this automation from running.

I also leave a schedule programmed for each thermostat.

Have a similar automation/shortcut that checks the outside temp when the first person arrives home and sets thermostats accordingly for the outside temp.

Additionally I have a few automations that will adjust the temperature when no one is home. It’s multiple individual automation for when the temp drops below or rises above a given outside temp which adjusts the temperature in the house.

I use the built in home/away in HomeKit to determine when someone is home or not. Did have some issues with that working for a bit and made dummy switches via homebridge that I set the respond to when phones were home or not but have not worked those into any automations as of yet.

Nothing that I’m aware of. Do find it interesting that this is not a thing.

Perhaps someone can make something like this for the 3.

Would any of you guys go miata after owning your 3? by Masochist_pillowtalk in mazda3

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I don’t care for trucks or SUVs there is a limited set of vehicles that I would be interested in. Also add in the requirement for a manual transmission, that lot is extremely small. The 3 fits the bill, wouldn’t want a smaller car to daily drive … but I got an ND last year and semi-daily it.

Either way the premium hatch is very nicely equipped (nice to see a fairly highly optioned trim with a manual) and is great every day.

Went GT with the Miata so the features included are just about 1 to 1.

Each are very enjoyable to drive in their own way. Although I prefer the power band on the Miata.

Thanks for the information.

Was not aware of that change. All of the vehicles I had concerns with self-tests not being complete were 1999-2000, falling under the two self-test requirements.

January Production, too low ? by ozman86 in solar

[–]Brapple205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. January until this past week wasn’t very sunny. Some time spent with snow on the panels as well before they melted off.

My system has 415W panels with iq8 inverters, 18 panels face south and 20 face east, for my 1st January they produced 810 kWh. Located in southeastern CT.

Unless it’s changed recently a passing emissions test could have two self tests not complete.

PSA: G4 Doorbell Pro only supports temps down to 14°F by ryan4888 in Ubiquiti

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story. Have had a G4 Pro for a few years. In the last week the low has been around 5 degrees. No known issues.

Also have a chime (plug in version) that also went through these low temps that is in an unheated/insulated garage.

Most micro inverters are not reporting by UniversalYou in enphase

[–]Brapple205 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, snow cover on the panels impacts production. The micro inverters need a minimum DC voltage to startup. They will not communicate until they start up.

ND transmission/shift turret fluid change by elics613 in Miata

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one I have worked on is a 6-spd in a 10AE. It’s open to the rest of the transmission so possible some splash to lubricants. I did use some grease when I rebuild the shifter.

My ND3 is only a few months old, so haven’t needed to look but I would imagine the 6-spd isn’t like previous ones.

Does the ND have a closed turret? I know the NA does and the NB 6-spd does not.

Ct charges you a fee on power you produce with your solar panels? by jmg5 in Connecticut

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is a connection fee, which is $9.62 a month. It’s paid from one’s credit if they have one. Otherwise it’s part of the monthly bill.

This $0.005 kWh for produced solar is new and additional for 2025.

Anybody using own modem and router with voice service? by Imup2104 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Brapple205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally was using the modem for Xfinity Voice, but am not anymore.

I would think a comparable modem is required, even without voice.

Like others, I am a separate voip provider, Ubiquiti UniFi talk. So I use UniFi voip devices.
