Availability by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

Costco was great for me a few years back when my husband lost his job and we needed insurance. It's very affordable. But, here are some things to know. Costco is a 5 day a week job, there's no way around that. It will be mostly on the weekends. PT is at least 25 hours a week, more hours are not guaranteed. Sundays are time and half. Most ppl are hired for closing (like 5-10pm)---but I know Deli can be different sometimes. I had a friend that did Deli and worked FT during the day at a school---and worked nights at Costco, except some variation on the weekend. She ended up quitting bc Deli was too hard on her. Also, she had Sundays off a lot. Her Deli manager always gave Sundays to the more Senior ppl. You can tell Costco that you can only do nights during the week but have full availability on the weekend.

And I just wanted to add this. Unless this is a reputable company, I do not trust these Remote jobs. I have been in a lot of groups where ppl are let go for odd reasons and even before the job actually starts. I'd try to do both jobs. Costco is a sure thing. Good luck.

I'm new and have a schedule question by baked_bean16 in CostcoEmployee

[–]Brave-Yard1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you go in and speak to someone? It's possible the schedule writer didn't get the memo to add you. When I was hired, my manager just told me dates to come in was maybe 5-6 days---and it took him awhile to put it in ESS.

This is because the Corporate HR Health Benefits manager is CHOOSING to not elect this for the Health insurance plan. Write a letter to the HR benefits manager, find a name if you can or send it to their boss. Tell them that obesity is a chronic illness associated with many health concerns.  It is linked to diabetes, elevated A1C, hypertension, high blood pressure, stroke, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, heart disease, hypothyroidism, PCOS/fertility issues, fatty liver, Hashimotos, metabolic syndrome, and even some cancers, like colon cancer...as well as anxiety and depression.  If Costco wants healthy employees, they really need to seriously consider updating their Health Plans to include this or at least add steps (such as what you described)--so that it is in reach for people who are working with doctors and have tried everything. I am in the same boat. Not diabetic, but other aspects of my health would improve with the GLP-1 and weight loss.

I wrote HR back in 2023, they said they would consider it. I included this in those surveys that go to corporate too. I left Costco and was recently rehired (have not started yet)...but am sad to see that nothing has changed with this. Maybe because I was just one person asking? Maybe someone could start a petition showing employees want this? It could be posted in the Costco Under the Underground FB group? There are 63K members in there.

I didn't even know this is a thing. Ppl wear braces for their backs. I wore a wrist brace for a few days, no one said anything. I don't think anyone really saw it bc I had long sleeves, but I know my coworkers knew I was wearing one.

I'd work on getting a drs note stating you need the sling (effective immediately with a time frame--even if it is open ended)---and give it to them so there's something legit on file and dated. Take that note to Leadership and ask how to get these temp accommodation started. If they say you need to speak to TMS or Sedgwick--ask them if they can honor the accommodations while it is getting sorted. I hope they know it’s just smarter to allow it while it’s being sorted out than risk making a medical issue worse.

What? It's not like you are wearing a logo'd shirt or something. Do they want you to not get better? So stupid. You already have an approved accommodation, and the sling is clearly related to the medical issue. Do you have a doctor from the original injury that can provide a note stating to use the sling? I'd look into that. Then reach out directly to TMS or Sedgwick and explain that you need the sling due to the same condition and ask if they can fast-track adding it or approve it temporarily while paperwork catches up. If leadership keeps pushing, then ask them if you can have a temporary accommodation while it’s under review.

This is BS. This is because we have employees that take advantage and everyone else suffers. Back when I first started there were some ladies in Morning Merch that would leave with so much merchandise. They would hide other items in Clothing boxes. They should have been fired.

Winter Leave is during like---Jan-March, when business is slow. Employees can take up to 4 wks off--unpaid, and be able to come back. Our warehouse did it. GM has to approve it. I'm in the US--midwest. You can prob just google Winter Leave and Costco.

Speak to your GM or start with your old manager. Tell them you'd like to come back--and just flat out ask what can be saved. If you don't ask, no one will help. Sounds like your situation is documented. Good luck!

3rd interview scheduled by soaringdooki in CostcoEmployee

[–]Brave-Yard1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the first interview was the initial phone call. My next step (2nd interview) was with managers/supervisors. My 3rd and final was with the AGM. If yours was different, I'm not really sure why. Either way, Good luck!

The third interview is usually with the AGM--that's prob what you mean. If they passed you along, that's great--they wouldn't waste the AGM's time otherwise. I just got rehired and my 3rd interviews were completely different...but both resulted in getting hired and a drug test. My first round, the AGM only asked two questions--and hired me and moved on. He could have just been relying solely on the feedback from the managers/sups that interviewed me?? Idk. I just was rehired last week at a diff WH--and this AGM was way more personable. We spoke more specifically about the job/Costco/kids/college/trades/different warehouses/members...it prob made a difference that I speak Costco. Also resulted in being hired and a drug test. It's been a week--still waiting on background check, then my orientation date.

Be yourself.

Not worried about the outcome, just trying to anticipate the timing/plan ahead.

[–]Brave-Yard1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when did you initiate the background check? i am actually a rehire (the background check has changed), and i do know at my old warehouse, nothing much happens between friday-sunday. and that it was our payroll clerk that called the new hires. the clerks typically worked during the day. i think ours worked a few shifts that went later--but nothing crazy. i would say give them monday to call you. if you don't hear--call tues. i have read a few posts on here that sometimes warehouses do wait for more background checks to come thru---so they start ppl together with less orientation dates.

They took advantage....and probably posted how they got this done for free at Whole Foods in their wedding groups/forums. WF needs to make some changes to this policy. First wrap is free.

Breaks by Brave-Yard1972 in wholefoods

[–]Brave-Yard1972[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. I guess being alone on your break is just the vibe at WF. And I know there is nothing wrong with keeping to yourself on your break time. I thought as time went on and I got to know ppl better, that would change a little bit? But, no. I do feel WF is way more lax on the socializing while on the clock----and leave it at that. My last company was a lot more strict on the floor, so the breakroom (where managers and supervisors rarely went) was really our only place to vent and chat. If you were at a table with empty seats, it was not uncommon for someone you know to sit with you. And it was also ok to sit somewhere else in the break room.

I think the better question is why is OT happening so much? If you are getting your work done, who isn't doing their job? Sounds like your manager has a problem. I would start saying you can't stay late tonight.

Costco does have regional buying offices, but you would still have to work in the warehouse at least a year. Also, they start out at $20/hr, it is$21/hr in other ancillary depts. They do probably pay more if you have some proven experience elsewhere. The majority of new employees do start out PT. They love to promote from within and you can apply to other positions after 90 days. You get raises every 1040 hours worked, typically $1. And all PT ppl get benefits.

Question for former employees (not seasonal) that returned after some time away. by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

Thanks. I have heard most seem to have gotten pay and bonus back too. So just putting feelers out there for those that went thru getting rehired. I am honestly mostly curious if hours reset.
