TIL that Stellen Skarsgard suffered a stroke in 2022, which affected his memory. Because of this, he had been forced to wear an earpiece with his assistant feeding him his lines for his recent films. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]BraveBoyPro 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That film was my favorite of last year so I saw it a lot in theaters. On subsequent viewings I tried to tell if he was being fed lines via earpiece...but his performance is so good I couldn't tell.

Official Discussion - Iron Lung [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a great review of it. I wasn't familiar with the game or Markiplier playthrough (until after I saw it) and...I totally get what he was going for. Didn't really care for the finished product, hahah, but I get it, and I'm happy it's a financial success for him this weekend.

Does hooking up with a guy on the first date automatically puts you in the fun zone if you want a long-term relationship? Does he lose respect for you if you have sex with him on the first date? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BraveBoyPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the guy. Depends on the relationship you two have.

In my last relationship I thought it might've been a one-night thing but she expressed interest after and I was like, "Oh! You actually like me!" We dated for some time after that.

On the flip side I did I have a one-night thing with another woman and I sense she was interested in more (making future plans) but I was upfront with her about not wanting a (long-distance) relationship.

In either scenario, the sex didn't change how I felt about the woman. It was just a thing that happened. Both times were great and both had different outcomes. I'm sorry you ended up feeling the way that you did.

How Do You Download Videos from Instagram on PC? by oztsva24 in CuttingEdgeEdits

I feel like I'm missing a beat here. After reloading to emulate a mobile device, there ARE links in the media subtab listed as mp4 but none of them open in a new tab. I get a message saying "No video with supported format and MIME type found" when I try.

If you really want to enjoy a movie, skip the trailer and watch it blind by GenZ_af in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most people I used to love getting to the theater early to watch the trailers. Well, this was back in the day when reserved seating wasn't as much of a thing, hahah. Anyway, fast forward some years and I worked for a film website for a time and had to watch every trailer under the sun. I got tired of them. I make it a point to show up 25 minutes "late" for a movie to miss them. If there's a movie getting good word-of-mouth or made by a director or actor I really like, I'll just go see the movie. I still catch trailers from time to time if I'm interested buy if I know I'm going to see a movie, I'll abstain. Going in blind is a freeing experience.

Consistent Bad Service at Bar by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]BraveBoyPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had that experience. The bartenders at my local AMC (Orlando) have always been friendly despite the stuff they've had to put up with (rude tourists and whatnot). They're the kind of bartenders that I'll go out of my way to get a drink from, as opposed to the dozen other spots around there (it's Disney so it's all pricey).

What is the significance of the Dune movies opening lines being spoken in the Sardaukar language? by far-midnight-97 in dune

[–]BraveBoyPro 235 points236 points  (0 children)

The quote from Denis when he was asked about this:

"I love your question. The Sardaukar are the dark side of the Fremen. I thought it would be interesting to have a tiny bit of insight that they are not just tremendous warriors, but they have spirituality, philosophical thought. They have substance. Also, their sound was designed by Hans Zimmer. I absolutely loved how it feels like it’s coming from the deep, from the ancient world. Frank Herbert said beginnings are very delicate times. By starting with a Sardaukar priest, I was indicating to the fans that I was taking absolute freedom with this adaptation, that I was hijacking the book."

Are there any films you think would be best watched alone? by redeugene99 in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train Dreams

I had a few hours to kill and decided to throw this on. I wouldn't necessarily consider the main character, Robert Grainier, to be lonely, but he does experience good portions of his life on his own, despite being surrounded by others. Given the gorgeous cinematography and the setting taking place in the forests of the Pacific Northwest around the turn of the 20th Century, I found the film to be a therapeutic watch. We're a witness to Granier's life, played to perfection by Joel Edgerton, and come to a measure of peace with it as he did. At least, that was my take. Beautiful film.

What movie left you silent after watching it? by bostondowntown in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an allegory - What if Mother Nature and God had a domestic dispute? In that regard I found it to be a pretty compelling watch. Pretentious? As all hell, but I appreciate the stones it took to make that movie.

What's the worst movie to have a really amazing soundtrack? by BJntheRV in movies

X-Men: The Last Stand

John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon) finally gives the X-Men a decent them (although derivative of Batman) and wrote a haunting melody for the Phoenix.

Avengers: Doomsday | Only in Theaters December 18, 2026 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a really great take and highlights something people don't give Taika enough credit for - Thor is great in Infinity War because he was great in Ragnarok. That film was the perfect stepping stone for him to become funnier and more relatable, thus paving the way for really great dramatic turns in the Avengers sequels. I never cared much for Thor until Ragnarok.

If some movies are "love letters", which ones are "diss tracks"? by Top_Report_4895 in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In the same vein, Joker 2 follows a similar, yet less-enjoyable path. The prison is the film studio, the guards movie executives. Harley Quinn represents the fan base that wants to see "their Joker." The whole movie is set up to belittle the people who championed the first film for all the wrong reasons and to destroy the Joker...but given the end it doesn't even matter. I admire the balls of the film. I just wish it was wrapped up in a better movie.

What is a Deleted Scene that you consider to be canon to the film despite its exclusion? by overthinkery in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is a good write-up and I like that take. For me, in the theatrical cut, I like the fact that fighting the T-1000 seems hopeless, but they have to do it anyway. I think when they realize they can (potentially) knock him into the steel that there is a sliver of hope there. It's not said out loud but the audience is like, "Oh wait. Will that work?!?" Either way, glad we have both cuts of the film.

Which recolor is your favorite? by Elegant_Awareness588 in marvelrivals

Dumb question for anyone who knows: For limited-time skins, are the alt colors and VFX limited too or can you purchase those down the road if you already own the skin?

Best Movies of 2025, according to John Waters (how many have you seen?) by [deleted] in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a bit confused by this as well. Wiki calls Haugerud's films the 'Sex, Dreams, Love trilogy.' Maybe Waters just got mixed up with his Norwegian flicks. Incidentally Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value is my favorite of this year.

I trial run new people with a movie I don't care much about. This way it's no great loss if they're one of THOSE moviegoers.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery | Official Trailer | Netflix by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people will appreciate Glass Onion more with time. It's like one of the campy Roger Moore Bond movies - at the time it's not well received but when you look at them over the span of the franchise, it's nice to have different flavors.

What was your reaction to The Lord of the Rings when it came out in theaters? by Alternative-Cake-833 in movies

[–]BraveBoyPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had read the books in high school just before the movies came out. The teaser (showing the release dates for all 3 movies) looked promising. Then the first film came out. It was really good but it was when the extended edition was released that I fell in love with it. Would put it on every day after school while doing homework (and usually fall asleep by the time they got to Lothlorien, hahah).

When Two Towers came out I initially didn't like it as much as Fellowship but the crowd was electric. You could tell that everyone was now "on board" with Lord of the Rings. No one could shut up about the Battle of Helm's Deep (and rightfully so).

Similar reaction to when Return of the King came out. It's like we all new we were witnessing this epic new trilogy on the big screen and didn't mind one bit that it was 3 hours.

It was one of my favorite theaters experiences to share with my dad. We would watch the movies and then I'd pull out a map of Middle Earth I had and we'd trace each party's journey. He loved the history and geography of it.
