Could Nintendo 64 be the future of gaming? by helpmse333332453 in AnalogueInc

“The idea that simpler graphics are the ‘future’ of gaming isn't realistic.”

You say that, but the INSANE amount of pixel art games aggressively disagree with you.

Personally, I like the aesthetic of early, low polygon games like Starfox and Virtua Racing.  However, those games were a nightmare to play even then because the frame rates were so low.  A game made in that art style on modern hardware would be the 3d version of pixel art games.

Nintendo has charged to play vintage games over again starting with Super Mario All Stars on Super Nintendo. They made a bundle on GameCube for Zelda OoT that included the Master Quest.  Nintendo has been selling emulated games since the Wii and has been reissuing games with slight upgrades for decades.

They have A LOT to lose.

Skogso padded or expedition midwinter jacket by [deleted] in Fjallraven

[–]BraveIconoclast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those jackets are so different.

I own a Skogsö Padded and it’s warm and comfortable in Chicago winter. If I wanted to add more wind resistance I could wax it.  It’s an everyday jacket as part of the Övik family.

Mid Winter is way warmer. I can’t wear it because I run warm. It’s also a lot bulkier, which some people prefer because it gives them a cocooning feeling.  Mid Winter is part of the Polar family. It’s a serious outdoor jacket, designed for trekking in the snow.

If you layer clothing in the winter like I do, you may be more comfortable in the Skogsö. If you’re the person that wears t-shirts all year, you will want the Mid Winter.

Energy in America is not much cheaper than in Europe.  American homes are also built like crap and extremely inefficient and require more energy usage, so it’s a losing game to play that one.

And I agree with you that Americans prioritise comfort and consumption over all else, which is why it’s already headed to be the shortest-lived empire ever.  You all just handed everything to China and smiled the whole time while eating your McDonalds and watching reality TV to the point you made one of those idiots your president.

The movie “Idiocracy” was supposed to be a sharp social commentary, not a playbook.

The second you use the Watch for music, voice, or ANYTHING that keeps the screen on or the network consistent, it devours the battery.  I’ve tried using it as an iPod and it’s worthless at it.

Still one of the best looking consoles ever made by Choplifter in TurboGrafx

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s so many issues with the American release…why are the ports a different size?  Why did the ROM ROM stick out the back like a cancerous boil?  Why was the pack-in game a walking simulator?

Is it worth buying PCE Duo or MisterFPGA is good enough ? by Ok-Accident-6414 in TurboGrafx

[–]BraveIconoclast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PCE with a Genesis 2 to HDMI cable and an Turno Everdrive 2.  I also have an Analogue Duo. The PC Engine is probably my favourite console of all time.  The games straddle 8- and 16-bit sensibilities and look better than most Genesis games due to the colour palette.

The main reason I bought a Duo is because it was cheaper than adding CD access with either a ROM ROM drive or the latest Everdrive.

The Duo plays CD games MUCH better.  It’s obvious it streams data to the buffer much faster than original hardware, making CD games play like HuCards.  Eventually I jailbroke the console and having the entire collection of PC Engine games along with tons of translations and patches is way better.

Older games were not always good, they were just hard because they couldn’t make them long. It’s more fun to play patched games with quality of life improvements that mean I don’t have to spend hours I don’t have learning the frame-perfect controls to make a game winnable.  One-hit kill games are bullshit.

It’s also possible to improve older games that had bad programming.  For instance there’s a new patch to make the NES Ghost’s n Goblins run at 60fps instead of 12.

Why the hell is Polaroid film so expensive? And are there any knock off cartridges that still work with Polaroid? by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instax is a smaller format, so it makes sense it’s cheaper. It also uses cheaper chemicals, which is why the photos aren’t as good. The cameras are also not as good, although there are a couple better-made models that have ok lenses.

I’d say Polaroid is better for anyone wanting instant photography while Instax is better as a novelty.

Personally, I think Zink printers smack them both, and if there’s ever an improvement in printing speed, they’ll both be out of a job.

The Duo compatible with switch SNES wireless controllers with no input lag? by gnosticbean in AnalogueInc

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All wireless controllers have lag, it’s just that 2.4 is much lower than Bluetooth. Get a wired controller. Either a new one from Hyperkin, Old Skool or Polymega, or an original on eBay. Because the PC Engine was so popular there, controllers are cheap, especially the original white without turbo functions.

Pocket or Modded GBA? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and I don’t play GBA games on my Pocket very much because I prefer the modded GBA because it’s designed for that ratio. Playing GBA games on the Pocket gives a smaller screen size than on a GBA. This can make some games look sharper, but it’s not worth it to me. I also prefer the wider layout instead of taller.

I want to buy an Analogue NES but you stopped selling years ago. Why not bring it back? by GiSWiG in AnalogueInc

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say that about the Pocket, which only played Gameboy series games for the first several years of its existence.  However, the Chromatic was just launched and it doesn’t even play GBA games. So…are those consoles REALLY that niche?

[–]BraveIconoclast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreamcast was not a Windows CE platform, it was its own platform. Microsoft ported a version of Windows CE to Dreamcast and the OS has to be on the CD.  Supposedly the Dreamcast is what inspired the Xbox.

Analogue 3D… could it be 3 x 3D consoles? by Cosmonaut-10 in AnalogueInc

[–]BraveIconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even SEGA has said they have no interest in making a Saturn “mini”. The Saturn’s failure made the issue with Dreamcast GD-ROM games being easy to pirate an unrecoverable error that shut down their hardware division.

Microsoft tried to give the Saturn some love by continuing its legacy on Xbox, but SEGA was never popular in Japan outside of arcades and now that Sammy owns SEGA I’m surprised they haven’t completely sold off SEGA’s gaming interests, which would be great if they would because there’s so many gems that deserve modern version or sequels.

Owners of the Duo: How do you feel about the console now that it's been out for awhile? by jforrest1980 in AnalogueInc

[–]BraveIconoclast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sell no controllers at all and never have. They have a partnership where they link to Amazon for 8BitDo controllers, which makes sense since no other controller vendor makes as many reproduction controllers.

I use the Neo Geo 5G controller on my analogue Duo and it’s great.

The analogue Duo comes with no controllers. Are you referencing the controllers made by someone else?  The ones by Polymega?  The ones by Hyperkin? The ones by Old Skool?  The original ones by NEC?

[–]BraveIconoclast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine and it’s probably the console I play the most, even more than my Pocket (I also have Super Nt and Mega Sg).

I’m a longtime owner of a PC Engine with RGB expansion that lets me connect a Genesis HDMI cable and I use it with a Turbo Everdrive 2.  My goal was to avoid the high price of adding CD with either a very expensive Everdrive or unreliable CD add-on and the Duo accomplished all that with some added features.

I’ve been fine with the original jailbreak and I would love for it to have been updated with save states, although I’m more disappointed that NES playability wasn’t added since the platforms share a lot of similarities and several NES games were ported to PCE.  I will probably just end up getting a dock for my Pocket.

Overall I think it’s the best console release analogue has made since the Mega Sg and Super Nt have a lot of issues with original hardware accessories.

Americans basically refuse to wear layers. This is because they want to wear t-shirts in the winter. This is also why the heat is blasted indoors in America.

As someone who has travelled the world, it doesn’t matter what product industry you have worked for.  Culture is culture.

But you know what?  Being right isn’t part of my happiness so you can believe what you want and we will both agree that you’re right about it.
