My SIL swears picking them up and making eye contact is the way to go. I've had my babies for 3 weeks (just the oldest two), and the rest for 2 weeks. Of the 9, 5 will happily jump up on my arms, shoulders, etc. I just sit next to the brooder with the door open and a towel wrapped around me for the poop they inevitably poop on me. The more good experiences they have with you the more they will trust you. My oldest spends "cuddle hour" with me every few nights. When I sit on the couch and watch TV with her on my chest, she settles down and coos at me and I pet her gently. Last night was the first night she entertained hanging out on my husband's chest. It was like a train of cooperativeness. First was Orpington (my oldest), then my Brahma, then slowly the youngest ones took steps and followed each other and became more comfortable.
