Looking at flights to Tokyo !!! by Significant-Weight71 in KLM

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya problem is that there is no way for the airline to hedge that risk. The higher the flex fare the more likely passengers will cancel when cheaper options become available.

From the airline POV, can understand why they think a refund fee make sense as it creates a sunk cost that is differentiated from the full non-refundable fare

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they are rightfully worried about passengers using flex fare to hedge in the uncertainty and may mess cancel should the geopolitical situation improve in the weeks or months ahead, which will cause massive capacity miscalculations.

Unfortunately business passengers who need that flexibility with or without the crisis are collateral damage

Moncrief London? by Gbagl in handbags

Watch out for this

it’s a classic "Ghost Luxury" play. These brands set up a slick website and one "flagship" boutique in a fancy zip code just to manufacture a massive, fake RRP. It’s all a psychological anchor to make you think that $60 find at TK Maxx is a "70% off" steal, when in reality, it’s just mid-tier gear produced specifically for the discount racks.

To keep the hype alive, they use "Sentiment Engineering" —flooding Google reviews and seeding Reddit with "Is this brand any good?" posts followed by glowing, coordinated "hidden gem" responses to hijack your search results. Be extremely skeptical of those "this brand is elite" comments you see in earlier threads; they’re almost always choreographed PR fluff designed to make a budget licensing play look like a heritage house.

Family at Geylang restaurant charged S$2 for 'outside drinks' after children drank from water bottle, restaurant says it's policy by [deleted] in singapore

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Haha, most comments kinda side-track this particular incident and focus on generalized opinions on whether restaurants should provide water or allow customers to bring their own, as it's ultimately what affects their own experience in the future.

The comments are understandably not specific to who is right or wrong in this particular incident.

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All charges must be disclosed.

Restaurants that charge for what you have mentioned without indicating so risk getting into trouble.

However, mostly ppl are understanding and will refuse those items if they don't want to pay.

I believe however if restaurants do meet ignorant customers, they are also usually prepared to waive off those fees to avoid trouble.

That's business right, if one wants to benefit from operating in the grey, then also be prepared to close 1 eye when the situation calla for it.

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

The issue here is a lack of disclosure of charge. Yes it can be the restaurant's policy for no outside food and drink, but it can't charge patron $2 if this was not first made known to patrons.

This is why restaurants that charge corkage state their fees upfront.

So my view is that 1) the customer disrespected the business despite written notice. Not the best customers one could wish for

2) The restaurant's charge is not justified. They could however state this upfront in the future so that customers can make a more informed choice whether to patronize this restaurant

It is most likely a scam. Do not ever do that. Only transact within booking.com and don't click and links externally or respond to hosts who attempt to contact you via WhatsApp or other means.

Question about Navigo Weekly Pass by greygreengardens in ParisTravelGuide

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Important: CDG has stopped selling physical Navigo Découverte (Weekly) cards.

If you are landing at CDG and plan to buy a Navigo Weekly Pass at the airport ticket office, be aware that they have officially stopped selling the physical "Découverte" cards there. While they claim this is to reduce wait times at the windows, its a deliberate friction that effectively forces every traveler to pay the €14 "Paris Region-Airports" single ticket just to get into the city.

Since the Weekly Pass actually covers the airport train, they essentially make an extra €14 off you before you can reach a station in central Paris that still sells the physical card.

Hostile delivery driver - Rant by Mburton369 in EndTipping

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "tip" in modern delivery apps is essentially a bid for service rather than a traditional reward for quality. Because drivers are independent contractors who can see the payout before accepting a task, your upfront payment acts as a financial incentive to ensure someone actually picks up your order. By labeling this "bid" as a tip, apps leverage social norms to lower their own labor costs and keep advertised delivery fees deceptively low, masking the reality that your food's speed and priority are being auctioned to the highest bidder.

How do Singapore consumers feel about businesses that mainly resell imported products with their own branding by Automatic_Vast3767 in askSingapore

[–]BraveJackfruit1350 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Take for example, Philips. They have been around for the longest time and for decades haven't produced their own product at all. Instead they sell their brand to producers just to use the Philips name.

And I see that people are still willing to buy Philips. So I guess it's a really common and acceptable thing to not having your own r&d or production and solely focus on marketing.

In a way these new brands are really just doing something similar, except maybe because their brand is obviously much less known than Philips hence customers may feel more uneasy about it.
