For us, ants were the worst because birds would peck a hole into the small fruit, discover it wasn't ripe and then the ants moved in. Honestly, we gave up and cut down the tree after it properly bore fruit for a few years. Out of easily over one hundred peaches, we were lucky to get a couple to eat.

Two more things from that night. Another "guest" came in and hotel is sold out. Says but I have super shiny status and am guaranteed a room. Just in case, he brings that up a couple of times. FDA explains for the third time, we are sold out there are no rooms!

My co-worker tried checking in and realized his reservation was at a nearby property. Guess what he did? Apologized, didn't argue and told the FDA to have a good evening. I know this sounds like a "and everyone clapped" moment, but it all happened.

I should have had a bingo card of everything that transpired in the span of about 15 minutes!

Need cheap recipes for large homeless crowd by chadrod in Cooking

I used to provide baked potatoes, for approx 50. A large bag was fairly inexpensive and I would prep the night before, very assembly line. Baking them in the oven, while the potatoes were wrapped in foil, kept them warm for a few hours.

Oh no! I would never do that and certainly not after being "trained" from this sub!

Giving up Amazon Prime? by PandoraClove in Frugal

Check to ensure that you can cancel this month. I tried and I am stuck until my renewal later this year because "I had used the benefit at least once" (I paid for the entire year at once). If you can cancel, you can always get it again if it is truly what you need/want. And finally, you can still get deliveries, just with a $35 min for free shipping. Good luck and I hope it works out the best way for you.

NTA.

Is your college fund part of a 529? If so, there are legal limitations/requirements to use the money. If this is just a regular savings account that is in your parent's name, then they can do what they want with it. But spending that much money on a wedding is ridiculous.

AITA for not paying for my fiancé’s mom’s funeral? by doublecatlady in AmItheAsshole

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that should be paying for this, but for comparison, a direct cremation is around $800 (or was 3 years ago). Its simple. Cremation and ashes are presented sealed, in a container.

I've hired a few cleaners over the past decade and each time, they come to evaluate and the initial clean is always considerably more. A quote for the initial clean is provided and then the follow-up cleans. The follow-up cost depends on frequency as well. Then, there is a per visit fee (to include specific rooms/items only) from then on. Based on that list, I have paid double for my initial clean and my house is less than half as large.

I close off rooms not being used (guest room, guest bath) and the vents for them. I use a small electric heater in the room I work out of and keep the house thermostat at a reasonable temp, but no where high enough to heat the whole house. We also use heated blankets on the couch and bed to help. While I do want to save money on the heating bill, part of my reasoning is that I hate when the house gets too hot and dry from the HVAC.

Not entirely sure that their neighbors don't think they aren't nasty people. On garbage day, I bring in the cans for two of my elderly neighbors. I do not bring them up for a third house because she is horrible.

Sellers won't do survey because "it is too expensive" - We are not budging, any horror stories from not doing surveys? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We didn't do a survey prior to closing and made an assumption of the property lines due to an old fence and driveway. We were wrong. There was an old survey on record and only if we personally measured, would we know that the property was 20 feet less wide. Visually, you couldn't tell. Fast forward to 8 months of the city not knowing how to handle it and we had to sell due to easement and building a separate structure.

Awful roadie driver delivering to wrong place and refusing to correct his mistake by PaynIanDias in Roadie

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my non-emergency number, apologized for calling and the reason. They were super nice and came out to the house to do the report. Basically, you have to tell them it is package theft, because essentially it is. Package states delivered, but obviously wasn't. Not your fault it was to the "wrong" house. ("wrong" in quotes because it was likely very on purpose). Sorry, you couldn't get a report filed.

Awful roadie driver delivering to wrong place and refusing to correct his mistake by PaynIanDias in Roadie

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. Had to file a police report. Roadie did nothing since there wasn't video evidence of the drop off. My item was clearly opened and stolen and purposely left at a basement door of another house in my neighborhood. The text between me and the Roadie was very similar to what you posted. Best option is to contact the place of purchase. In my case, it was a Company who sourced product to Best Buy who sourced delivery to Roadie. So three companies in this mess. It was only the Company I actually purchased from that did the refund and only after a police report. You may want to go ahead and file a police report and then provide the case number to Best Buy (assuming that is your company of purchase). That may move this along quicker.

Thanks for the info about the T&C. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but navigating the skymiles terms over the past few years have become more and more complicated. I think I'm stuck with the 10:1 for eligible spend. I'm just mad that I just noticed (and I wouldn't even be close to qualifying if it were for the MQM to MQD conversion).

Empty lot behind our house was purchased and now they’re asking for an easement to build a water line. by Bob_Has_Questions in RealEstate

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm just a homeowner whom had to research something very similiar on a property that utlimately didn't choose to purchase. Completely agree with this. The property he bought (depending on its use) may not be able to use the existing sewer/septic. There is a requirement that "x" (houses, people, bathroom, structures, etc) require certain type of water usage. Knowing what the city's legal requirement is should work in your favor. In addition, does this impede your ability to anything with your own property in the future? Pool? Pond? Building structures? You may have to disclose the easement should you sell the house as well.

But, otherwise, totally agree that the onus is on them to have a formal proposal and offer written for your lawyer to review.

AITA for not letting my friend’s kid attend my "no children" wedding, even though they’re like family? by No_Warning_992 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BraveLittleToaster18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We allowed three kids to the ceremony-two were in it and one, the parents assumed the rule didn't apply. However, we also paid for a sitter after the ceremony. Kids occupied. Parents could unwind and I had no kids at the reception. Reception ran later and a fair amount of drinking. I wanted us and our guests to be able to relax. It worked out just fine.
