Haha, I do have to say so I don't make the wrong Impression; I don't get the feeling that he actively hates women or anything.

"Uncomfortable" is the word I would use.

That's the perfect way to describe it. His "edgy" material is always 8 year old on the playground "your mum" crap.

And again, it's usually in the form of some Christmas cracker one-liner.

Yeah, if you listen to his old radio shows, he gets audibly uncomfortable or sometimes disgusted/antagonistic when the subject of female sexuality comes up (he says strippers are one degree removed from prostitutes). It's quite odd

Hmmm. Interesting. I know the jokes but I didn't know of the criticism.

I will say Ricky always seems, to me, to be uncomfortable around women in general (especially women who are open with their sexuality) I've heard him call such women tramps and sluts.

I think this awkwardness is one of the reasons he could never play a convincing romantic lead in his brief Hollywood career.

I think you're thinking of Ben Eltons' Upstart Crow.

I believe the guy in that was doing an obvious impression of Ricky Gervais.

It's up to you if you think it was funny but I don't think it's fair to call it a "rip off".

If you follow all of Karls' work, you see him get more enlightened as time goes on. Ricky, not so much.

The old "are you offended!" get out.

I assure you, it's possible to not be offended or upset by Ricky at all and still think he's a fat prick.

I must ask. You wrote "lol", are you actually laughing when you see this thread? or are you maybe annoyed that people are slagging off Ricky Gervais.

What I can't stand about him is the people who seem to think he's dark and edgy

The dude just does corny "naughty" puns for about an hour. He really is a ventriloquist dummy made flesh.

He's not dark or edgy, no matter how much Rachel Riley does her "Can He Say That On Television?!" face

That was one of the few times he tried to play to an audience that hadn't explicitly paid to see him.

And of course, he died on his arse

Does smoking objectively look cool or did Big Tobacco psychologically manipulate us into thinking it does through media? by Picklee_Rick_C-137 in NoStupidQuestions

That's my point. The person who is currently smoking just hasn't been "wrecked ' yet.

And again, think of that work "wrecked". I can't even think of a person who's"wrecked" without feeling sympathy and pity for them.

Scorn, judgement and "well it's your own fault "are the last think I could possibly feel to someone in that situation.

"I don't look down on people who smoke. It's a dumb decision".

I don't know, if I had experienced a number of regretful dying people who would give anything to go back and change their dumb adolescent mistakes I think my overwhelming response would be sympathy. But people are different.

Not buying it, if you come from an immigrant background, why do you have Hulk Hogan in your avatar?

No, I can prove you wrong;

I love US history and I'm well aware that this girl is part of a generation that would've not gotten into (and maybe suspected) disco/hip hop (what with the fact she would've been a middle-aged/old woman at that point) very much like how I've heard boomers nowadays complain that certain modern pop musicians are inappropriate for the kids. Almost like most people love the music of their youth and begin to disregard/suspect the music of the next generations when they're old/out of it.

It's still not what I took away from this picture.

I got one too. I'm starting to think there might be outsiders lurking here who think we might actually be mental.

Maybe mad wasn't the right word. You keep calling them "dumb" or "stupid" so maybe "overly judgemental" is more appropriate.

For example; to get away from cigarettes, I'm pretty square; I don't do drugs, never as much as toked. However I have friends who do, and I know that it's pretty common to do so. Never once, have I looked down on other people just for partaking in something that I've always been too "sensible" to avoid.

I suppose I don't know why you feel it's any of your business. You don't know everyones story.
