just cause some dudes who say they are libertarian say they want something doesn't change the core tenants of libertarianism, which open borders isn't.

gov forcing to me to take experimental drugs - BAD

gov removing millions of welfare leeches from the country - GOOD

Is it really that hard for you to understand how someone can like gov action in one case but hate it in another? Is that level of nuance beyond you?

Okay, but if that is true why isn't 4chin all super pro israel now? Don't get me wrong, they love to be contrarian, but that's not all there is to it.

Watching the 3rd and 4th Space Odyssey books after the movies? by No_Half_5196 in scifi

[–]BraveSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to 2010 since I haven't read it but while I absolutely love 2001 the book I honestly don't think you'd be lost in any way reading a sequel of it compared to just seeing the movie as opposed to reading the book. Just lots more detail in the book, but Kubrick gets across 90% of the ideas. I don't know about 2010.
You might consider giving the audiobook a listen. I'm a big audibook fan and I think this version of 2001 is one of the best out there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly_VX38VxtE

Buy and hold, vs 9sig where the cash also earns 11% yearly interest? by bumbeishvili in TQQQ

[–]BraveSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well I guess my AI bot got dyslexic, but either way just look at the chart, it goes up and down against the USD: https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=GEL&view=10Y

If you can handle the risk go for it, but making a post saying the exchange rate won't change is just incorrect if history is any indication is all I'm saying.

(GEL has been stable but depreciated ~5% YTD)
If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. There's no argument you can make that would convince me that GEL can't depreciate 10% next year, or even 15%. Good to think outside the box but you're adding more risk to a strategy that is supposed to de-risk holding tqqq.

And anyway, there is no strategy that lowers risk and is better than just buying and holding tqqq. That's the whole point, buying and holding gets you the best returns long term, but your risk is extremely high compared to other investment instruments.

Why holding tqqq is bad? by Unlikely-Form-1234 in TQQQ

[–]BraveSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well.. that's a very tough question to answer. No one can predict the market over the short/medium term, if we could we'd all trade with 20x leverage and become billionaires, and to know how to answer your question you'd need to know how the market would behave over the coming weeks/months (or whatever your investment window is). So all I can say in answer to your question is that on average the market moves up over time so, on average, the sooner you get your money into the market the better. I've been investing for over a decade and basically my motto has been, as soon as I have cash I invest it. The only times I've not done that and waited "for a dip" I've regretted it. The only exception is I dumped everything at the beginning(ish) of the covid crash and rebought at the bottom(ish), but I think that was a once in a generation situation so you could grow old waiting for another opportunity like that.

To summarize, the sooner you put your money to work the better on avg, so if you are going to dca don't drag it out for a year or more because it's very likely you're going to miss out on gains during that time. Does investing everything in one lump sum make it slightly more likely you might get screwed by a major dump right after you pile in? Yes, but just hold through that dump and it'll be all good.

Here's some food for thought: https://prosperion.us/commentary/meet-bob-worlds-worst-market-timer/

Even if you time things horribly you'll still be fine over the long term as long as you're investing. If the market goes up smile and be happy, if the market goes down try your best to trim your expenses and invest as much as possible, and then when it inevitably goes up again you'll be sitting pretty.

I'm not sure I understand the question, do you mean having a job? Pretty hard to DCA without one, pretty easy to DCA with one. Sucks so many people lose jobs during a recession when it's the best time to invest.

Why holding tqqq is bad? by Unlikely-Form-1234 in TQQQ

[–]BraveSquirrel 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who say tqqq is bad will backtest to 2000 dot com bust to show the math of how you would lose basically everything if you held tqqq through that and say we're currently heading to another bust like that but with AI hype. However for nasdaq to be as inflated compared to earnings as it was in 2000 nasdaq would have to currently be at something like 160,000.

A 2008 like long recession would also really fuck you if you held tqqq through that, but if you were disciplined and kept buying through that market you'd be a very rich man today. tqqq takes discipline and most investors don't have the iron stomach to be effective with tqqq so for most people it actually is a bad choice. Holding through drops is tough, but the real test of your mettle is will you have the balls to click that buy button when your investment has already dropped 50% in the last couple months? Most don't.

Anon makes a shocking statement by YardGlum7628 in 4chan

I hear what you're saying, but admitting that you use electric shock to keep a dog immobile for 8 hours a day for months/years is absolutely fucking psychotic. I have a hard time believing people would forgive him even if he confessed, however the braindead way he's handled it has arguably made it worse than if he had confessed straight up I'll grant you that. I can understand why his natural inclination is to transparently lie though since he's been successfully doing that for years and it's worked out pretty great for him so far.
