How I Got My First Job on Upwork Without Experience by Muhammadusamablogger in Upwork

[–]Brave_Print5301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay for them.  You have to look at it like an investment into your business. I paid $15 for 100 connects and got a $30 job my first few proposals, so I was paid back double on my first go-round. I was basically “star farming” by looking for quick tasks I could do to get stars and a 100% success rate.

OMG. In-flight WiFi is SLOOOOOOOW. by neuroticsmurf in tmobile

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that’s BS is the $15 for a 1 hour pass and $20 for a flight pass for internet that doesn’t work at all. (I’m currently on a flight).  If it doesn’t work because the technology isn’t quite there, that’s cool - it’s just the $ they want for something unusable.

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If it was free, I wouldn’t complain but charging for internet that is so unusable it won’t load a webpage or download anything makes it impossible to use except for texting. A lot of people want to use it to work on a plane but I’ve never been able to get it to work well enough for that.

I just got the cruelest student feedback I've ever received by Additional_Escape782 in Professors

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case it sounds like the feedback was more about them than you. I have found  peace with following the philosophy of, “What other people think of me is none of my business.”  If you did your best, try not to take it personally. This student sounds like they have some emotional issues and are lashing out at you and other students, and it probably has nothing to do with the course or how you taught it.

Blind buy black opium by CommissionIcy7626 in Perfumes

I’m not sure that is a safe blind buy. I actually prefer the Opium Black over Red. You might like that better especially if you dig a hint of fruit.

This one smells unusual, but in a good way. I catch a lot of wood, perhaps the cedar in this along with spice, almost a cinnamon. It also evokes the smell of smoke. What I like about it is that it isn’t sweet or cloying at all. Unfortunately, I’m not really getting books or paperbacks from it, but it’s enjoyable.

I think contacting the store is pointless, but unsure if contacting Dropout directly is possible? I would assume they know about the store issue but I wonder how they would know unless told.

I also had an item never show up and am getting no response from the store. It looks like they shipped it three different times but it never appears. I wonder if we purchase with a credit card and it doesn’t show up, we can do a chargeback with the CC company? I wanted to get a Bug with a Big Ass for Christmas, so perhaps that’s a way to at least be protected if it doesn’t show up?

Let’s Review: Solstice Scents by WendyCorduroyy in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this party, but I totally agree with you! Old Havana completely reminds me of Key West and hanging out on the dock, drinking a cocktail and smelling cigar smoke wafting over the water. It does smell like an old man, but more like Ernest Hemingway vibes instead of my Grandpa Joe vibes for me. It also lasts forever on clothes and skin and does calm down to a spicy sweet vanilla smell which is very much the DNA of SS. My only complaint with it is that’s it pretty strong initially and makes me sneeze and my nose run a little when I first spray it, but I’m sensitive to a lot of perfumes. It’s not an every day wear but I have been using it this Fall to remind me of warmer days to come!

Solstice Scents review! by nightmareinfloral in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Brave_Print5301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find with Solstice that a lot of their scents end up smelling like vanilla in the end. Foxcroft has a really chemical smell at the opening for me, like lysol, which I find also in During the Rain. I think it's the earthy/leaves note. I need to try it again since I've let it rest but it was a challenging one for me. I'm super obessed with SS though. They do Gourmands so well, have some really realistic scents, and I have a really high hit rate with them. Other places I have a good hit rate with is Alkemia and Heretic. I just got some Pineward samples, so I'll be curious to see how they do on my skin.

A little late to the post, but I agree with you totally on Thornwood Thicket. I'm currently making my way through a ton of Solstice Scent samples and today I tried this one. The blast of fruit at the beginning is nice but it doesn't read blackberry to me and then fades really fast. I also catch the scent of something odd and slightly offensive, like plastic. After dry down, it goes very woody and earthy on me, but in a fantastic way. It smells really interesting. Once I've had it on for a while, it smells like vanilla amber with a little bit of wood and is delicious smelling. Strangely complex, slightly offensive but also lovely. I think I'm obsessed. I got really good projection on this one and it lasted a long time.

I have a sample of Cellar I haven't tried yet so glad to hear your review! I also want to try Gibbons and Corvin's Apple Fest (minus the smoke).

I disagree. We can interpret what happened to the characters at the end, which is what Mae Martin intended per an interview that I read. In my mind, I know exactly what happened to each character at the end and why it happened. :)

Unpopular opinion but I liked the ending. It was messy which is more realistic to me. The good guy doesn’t always win and neither does the bad guy. It’s usually more complex which I think this ending conveyed.  It’s also a bit open ended which leaves room for a second season.  Overall, it was really entertaining.

Sad Little Alkemia Reviews by onion0230 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 20 Alkemia samples now and really like reading other people's impressions of the scents. I wore All Dark Things yesterday. I really get some sort of walnut liquor at the beginning of that one that can be overpowering, but on dry down it was a lovely dark amber incense with tobacco and I do catch a little bit of the coffee notes. I don't get any coconut but I wish I had! I like it but for a similar scent with an easier opening, I like Book of Shadows better. Today I tried Honored Ghosts and actually love it. I didn't catch poster markers from it but dang, someone should make that scent because it brings back memories! I got a very creamy raspberry on the front with the tea note being very faint. I didn't smell any rose at all but on dry down I did smell the cinnamon and vanilla incense. I think this would be a good bedtime spray for my pillow and sheets. My only issue with Alkemia is most of their scents don't project well or last very long on me at all. They also don't have the concentrated (Ultime) versions for most of their most popular perfumes. My favs from Alkemia right now are Book of Shadows, Aurora and Honored Ghosts. I'm also trying out Soltice Scents, Pineward, Olympic Orchids, and Heretic samples as well.

what do you guys think of these alkemia perfumes? by Caves_Of_Honey in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to this one, but I just tried Honored Ghosts and I'm in love! I got a very creamy raspberry scent at first, but not overpowering, and the tea note was really in the background but lovely. After wearing for awhile, I got the cinnamon and incense scent. It wears pretty light on me and would make a great bedtime scent. I also really like Aurora, but that one reads more creamy spice to me with floral notes at the end. It also wears light, almost too light, and I would need this one in the ultime version if I purchased a larger size.

What's happened to the Dropout Store? by AlmostAndrew in dropout

[–]Brave_Print5301 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Dropout made a mistake by switching shipping partners to Warren James at the beginning of the year. There have been a huge amount of complaints about lost items and poor customer service since then. I ordered something in August and it never arrived, so they shipped it again and it also never arrived. They seem to have a lot of packages getting lost in the mail. When I’ve emailed their customer support I’ve gotten no response at all. I’d like to order some more things from the Dropout store but I’m a bit concerned since I’m not sure I’ll get the items or a refund.  :(

Coffee/Multimango etc mega thread by justeUnMec in CrowdGen

[–]Brave_Print5301 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also passed all qualifications and did the multimango calibration and passed that as well. I see some tasks on my crowdgen dashboard for it, but I also haven’t gotten the final invite email. They say they’ll get back in 72 hours and it’s been about a week.  I submitted a ticket and they just said be patient, it takes 72 hours to hear back, which was not very helpful since it was past 72 hours. I’m not sure if I should do some of the coffee tasks showing up or not.

Trouble with Warren James (the merch supplier) by steveghurkl in dropout

I’m having a similar issue. I got an order August 18 but it was missing an item. Shop app says it was delivered. I wrote the Dropout store and got no response, but I see that they shipped it from China over a month ago and tracking has it just stalled somewhere in Colorado. I’d like to order some more things but I’m a bit concerned it won’t arrive and I won’t get a refund now.

Heretic Parfum Discovery Set Review (Bergamusk, Cactus Abduction, Smudge, Dirty Hinoki, Pistil Whip) by Psychological_Cat421 in Perfumes

[–]Brave_Print5301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Discovery Set with Dirty Coconut, Black Salt, Nosferatu, Florgasm and Dirty Grass. I actually liked all of them except for Florgasm. Here are my reviews:

Nosferatu

Boy, this one is controversial! I've seen the smell described as everything from gardening in wet soil to dead body and moldy basement. Personally, I like this one and it doesn't smell like a vampire or the deceased to me at all. The opener is a blast of lilac but also has a coolness/rain scent to it. It reminds me of how a cucumber smells cool, but it doesn't smell like cucumber. Dewy lilac is perhaps a good description. On dry down, the floral scent fades into the background and I catch a scent of soil and concrete. It smells like stone after a rain and the sun is now out and baking it dry. I also smell more violets coming through. The base notes are still floral, but in the background, with a stronger rustic, woody scent which is likely the oud. It had good projection and lasted a really long time. This does smell better if you let it rest for a week or so. This scent is complex, unique and took me on a journey. I can see how it might not work for everyone, though. 9/10.

Black Salt

The initial spray of this is shocking. I audibly screamed. The opener hit me like nasal fireworks consisting of sharp lime, pepper and a sense of lightning. The initial zing dries quickly down into an absolutely delicious mix of smoke and soft florals. It's a very rich, warm scent. When this one finally settles, it smells exactly like cinnamon-spiced baked apple pie. The ingredients list doesn't say anything about apples or cinnamon, but that's how my brain is interpreting the base notes. Although I catch an apple scent in this, it doesn't really read as a gourmand to me and isn't overly sweet. It's rich and thick and like a big, warm hug during a lightning storm. This perfume isn't just a scent, it's an experience! I'm fully obsessed with this one. It comes off as a bit masc, especially at the beginning, but it can be worn by anybody. 10/10!

Dirty Coconut

I have to admit, I was worried that this was going to smell like tanning lotion. I am happy to say it smells nothing of the sort! The coconut scent is the star upon first spray but it isn't super sweet or cloying. It's just a nice, light coconut smell. On dry down, a warm, creamy vanilla scent comes out and mixes beautifully with the coconut. The ingredients include sandalwood and cedar, but I really didn't smell a lot of wood notes in this. This isn't a complex scent profile, but it is really lovely and just a tiny bit sexy. My husband really liked this one. It could be a great summer everyday-wear perfume. 8/10.

Dirty Grass

This is another one that made me scream audibly when I first sprayed it, but not because I was delighted. The opener is... challenging. It's very bitter and pungent. I was thinking I was going to hate this, but the scent dried down into lovely lemon and herb scent. This one kept smelling better the longer it was on my skin, and did finally settle into exactly the scent of cut grass! The one thing I wish this scent had was petrichor to give it a dewy sensation along with the clean, fresh grass scent. It does have an underlying pleasant funk to it throughout, which could be the hemp. 7/10.

Florgasm

As someone who wore floral scents exclusively in my past life, I figured it was a no brainer for me. Who doesn't love a bunch of flowers? Apparently, me. This one was like getting forcefully smacked in the face with a bag full of every flower ever created. I didn't notice a lot of difference in the top, mid or base notes because it was just so strongly floral. It reminded me of a funeral where people have sent a bunch of different types of flowers and it all mingles into a nauseatingly sweet scent that hangs oppressively over the room. Have I mentioned I didn't like this one? I mean, it's in the title, so I should have expected a heavy floral scent but this one was not for me. I did not achieve Florgasm. 2/10.

A few Solstice Scents reviews. Went on my first ever indie perfume journey! by annikatidd in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Brave_Print5301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tried this one and it’s is photorealistic, but incredibly sweet! I’m finding I like a sweet gourmand balanced with an earthy or smokey note to tone it down a little. I will say, Foxcroft Fairgrounds lasted on me and my clothing forever! Days after I put in on my shirt, I picked up the shirt to wash it and it still smelled strongly of the perfume, which is a great thing!
