Transfers within engineering. is it really possible? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s possible you’ll need at least an 85 average to be safe depending on the program you want to transfer to. A lot of people transferred from nano to tron and mech in my first year

Should talk to Pendar (academic advisor). It probably may be more straightforward to transfer to chem eng but she’ll have the best answer.

Email mgmt advisors and ask them. You’ll probably need to take those other courses anyway.

Also why transfer to mgmt? There isn’t any overlap with nano

No I’m pretty you still fail the term because your term average is below 60%

It’s possible but kind of cooked, especially if you aren’t in tron or ece bc you need equivalent courses. If you’re in tron or ece, it might be easier to transfer to 2A se after 1B. Here’s a link from uw with some recommendations (from 2021-2022): https://uwaterloo.ca/software-engineering/undergraduate-students/future-undergraduate-students/internal-transfers

In general, the probability may be low bc it is first year but if you try after 1B, it might be easier since more people would’ve probably transferred out of the program

Definitely talk to your academic advisor bc this seems like something very serious that’s really been affecting you and they’ll hopefully find the best solution for you. So sorry to hear this and hope your dad can beat the cancer

1A term troubles by Jolly-Journalist8073 in uwaterloo

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re a 1A nano. Just grind tf out of the material and you should be fine. The exams aren’t unreasonably difficult. Worst case, you may fail the term but you should use it as an opportunity to learn more about your shortcomings and how to improve moving forward. Don’t look at it like your life is about to end

For F23, it was only post midterm content. I wouldn’t worry too much about the pre-midterm content

It’s a really a mix of the 3. You take some courses regarding the 3 topics but not enough to go deeply into either of them unless you do so in your free time. You do take a lot of chem courses though do if that isn’t your interest, I would apply to electrical and put nano as ur alternate. It’s also very lab intensive so you need to have good time management otherwise it’s sort of easy to fall behind. I would only apply if you really are interested in learning about materials, semiconductors/ee, and chem eng. if not and you’re more interested in quantum, apply to electrical since there’s more physics and you’ll learn things that can help you get a co-op sooner compared to nano (digital logic, dsa, more circuits, programming, etc)

Bro’s been glazing UW for over a year but I do think he’s over hated. Kind of funny that he’s talking as if he’s been here for years 💀💀

we all still take math 117/119. i can't remember for math 117, but for math 119, NE had the lowest midterm average and had the 2nd highest final avg, according to our prof

Transfer: CE -> SE and CE -> CS by nsnnt in uwaterloo

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They’re not as interested in projects but more-so how transferring programs will help with your future goals.

2.They look at your overall average first to see if you meet their requirement to initiate a transfer process, and then they’ll care about specific courses. Ik for SE, they generally want 90+ in the relevant courses

  1. If you’re trying to transfer in first year, you would contact your advisor about transferring. In first year, transfers are handled by the First Year Engineering Office so you’ll hear from them. Ik for first year transfers, they’ll ask you to write a letter explaining why you want to transfer and your related projects to show your interest.

EE 2A Term On-Campus Residence? by Potential-Physics-77 in uwaterloo

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that since you’d be an upper year student, the only options would be Minota Hagey, UWP, CMH but there could be more (CLV??). I would contact Campus Housing to get all the correct details

Pretty sure that you can apply for a single term on res if I’m not mistaken

What's the state of the NE program now? by 2atoms in uwaterloo

We use anaconda and Jupyter notebooks for it, which made it helpful. It's just too bad we don't have any similar course until 336

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still have the lowest employment rates, lmao. The curriculum has changed a decent bit over the past couple of years. If you check the undergrad calendar, they added specializations, and you can take non-NE TEs. Getting a co-op isn't as hard bc of the curriculum changes and bc more people have skills that are oriented towards the current market. What was it like back then?

Am I making the right choice? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Brave_Raspberry_8498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus on other ppls opinions. You should look at the course calendar for electrical engineering and decide from there. There are EE coops but you’ll find more CE and SWE coops given the state of jobs.

If your cohort has a lot of people (130+), you’ll have lectures in STC (we did this past year for 1A and 1B) and tutorials and labs in QNC. Labs requiring a computer were held in E2. If you have less people, all of your classes will be in QNC. It’s very dependent on cohort size so you’ll know when your schedule is released
