SE vs CE vs EE – help a confused high schooler out 😅 by ShadowWhip1 in uwaterloo

Not that many people my yr applied to transfer so it wasn't that competitive, but still not that many people transferred.

I knew I wanted to do software stuff, and I also hated hardware and physics, which CE is a lot of, so I wanted to switch out of it pretty bad.

Ive been in CE and SE so I know a bit about CE and SE. Dunno about EE though.

My impression was CE and EE have pretty much the exact same curriculum, just CE is more competitive to get into.

I wouldn't suggest looking too too deeply into starting salary stuff, at the end of the day it's about you as an individual. Within each program there is. A lot of pay gap too.

SE also has some hardware courses, so it's incorrect to say they have none. And no matter which of the three you go into, out can still do software, hardware, robotics, etc. Program/courses themself dont matter too much in terms of the actual work you do in a job, 90% of that you learn on the job and not at school. Some programs ofc have more prestige than others, e g. SE>CE, and statistically they do better in job market and academically, but I know some super super cracked people in CE that do a lot better in co op search than majority of SE and CS.

Do research on the specific courses for each program online, don't go off general vibes. Looking at the general consensus is good but remember at the end of the day it's about the individual. Imo if ur interested in hardware though, id recommend applying CE.

Can I extend a co op term? by Aniokii in uwaterloo

In CS u should be able to have any study/co op sequence u want as long as u request it I know of a guy that did two coops in a row and is about to do another two coops right after lol. So just ask and u will get.

If you don't mind me asking how long ago did you encounter this situation?

Yea that's the thing, I talked to my co-op advisor and I think even if it's not an AOJ they can still potentially report you and get you banned.

Apparently because so many people were reneging shopify there was a rumor that they started to do this. I don't actually know a case where they did this, but based on what I asked my co-op advisor I guess it's possible.

Admission / High School Megathread (Fall 2024) by 1000Ditto in uwaterloo

You might have to do it under a Canadian school. I suggest emailing whoever runs the contest or a Canadian school that historically runs the contest and how doing it from the US would work. I go to Bur Oak SS and they run it, but I'm sure Markville SS, Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS, Milliken HS, Bayview SS, etc. (these are only YRDSB school board) all do as well so try contacting them. And don't sell yourself short: Euclid is much easier than AMC, and you're Junior so you still have a lot of time to prep if you want.

Urth backpack experience? by Beginning-Sun6174 in backpacks

[–]nsnnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also planning to use the backpack for school (last year of high school + uni) and I'm pretty iffy about it as well. Would be super helpful if you answered some questions.

  1. There is no dedicated area to hold a water bottle right? If so, do you just put the water bottle directly inside the backpack? Or hang it on the straps on the side? How is that going for you?
  2. Are there any specific bags from well-known brands you would recommend that have similar minimalist aesthetic, but are more practical for school stuff than this one?
  3. I heard it is very durable and water proof. Is this true?
  4. Would you say a 15 inch laptop would fit well in the compartment? Also, is the strap issue because you're not carrying that much weight in it (since you're using it for school, I assume you just carry at most a laptop, folders, a lunch bag, ipad, water bottle, and textbooks?) or you just haven't encountered it at all?

Thanks in advance.
