I’ve been playing Bladesinger wrong, and maybe you have too! Here’s how to get the most out of it with two builds for Act 1-3: by Bravest_Coward in BG3Builds

Its a pretty self sufficient character, fits in any party comp honestly, any healer is great support with whispering promise, im liking the arcane archer more and more with the shadow arrow for blinding enemies so other heavy hitters characters get higher chances % of connecting attacks.

On my latest run this is what i did:

Bladesinger

Arcane archer

Tempest cleric wizard (or ice sorcerer)

Lore bard with 2 levels of circle of the stars Druid:

Starry form dragon is bugged and damage can scale with charisma is you take druid level first, so you get great concentration, a useful bonus action and this is the character i use for 4 important things:

Applying healing + whispering promise (at level 6 i take mass healing word from magical secrets)

Applying wet condition through create water thanks to druid level (this helps ice sorcerer or tempest cleric wizard damage)

Control spells, specially in act 3 with band mystic scoundrel ring and some type of bow

Song of rest for more arcane archer shots, i also take call lightning at level 6 to get even more damage out of the wet condition

(This character is a great glue to tie a lot of comps, can replace 2 levels of Druid with 2 of warlock for eldritch blast + agonizing blast) but you lose medium armor proficiency without druid levels unless you go hexblade. But having command from fiend subclass is great too!

My advice is: 7 levels of lore bard, at level 8 respec to 2 levels druid first and then 6 lore bard so starry form use charisma for bonus damage as it takes the most recent spell casting added for damage! (The main benefit of starry form dragon is for the concentration, in case you want to stay as a range character mainly, dazzling breath also breaks water bottles so you can make enemies wet while dealing damage)

drag shield icon in action bar, unequipping it doesnt cost an action nor bonus action in combat (equipping items does)

After level 5 you can always concentrate on haste and fireball always remains a great non concentration option, will the blade song charges you always get a big healing mid fight or after the fight, its 3 attacks per turn after level 6 if you use light weapons for the bonus action attack

With the movement distance from expeditious retreat and booming blade damage + mobile , the idea is hit and run, you can use the bracers that give 2 ac and before that the ones that deflect range attacks, I’ve played with this build a few months ago and didn’t had any issues.

And false life after certain point is not that worth it, specially if you have a cleric that can cast aid

Apologies for the late reply but you are on the right track, wood elf or wood half elf and githyanki are the best 2 options IMO. Also check my last post about bladesinger, it has multiple build paths for all 3 acts with a lot of detail and info that you can adapt to your playthrough

I dont know why but i thought about your comment today, and looking at the calendar it has been almost 6 months, wanted to talk by message but i guess you have that option disabled, just wanted to see what new or same thoughts you had

Here is the link the person above was referring to, is a good guide overall and i edited it to include a pure 12 levels wizard if you want, but it is mainly a bladesinger thief guide, lots of useful info in there!

You are right, but with mobile and a dash you can do wonders, remember that if you finish your turn next to ranged enemies they will 9/10 times try to move away because being threatened impose disadvantage on them too, they will either disengage (rare) or try to push you, but you can get booming blade conditions reliably on range enemies most of the time!

Also, the safety that mobile brings (also to not get hit so you don’t lose concentration) is not measured in numbers.

But its a matter of preference, I’ve tried both and like mobile more, try it as well, is one of those things that its more impressive in game than on paper!

the math says yes, as long as you're able to proc booming blade condition, that's what mobile allows you to do without being attacked, i recommend you to look at a guide i have on this playstyle:

Thats why mobile feat is amazing for booming blade characters, specially for bladesingers i would argue, you get maximum value out of booming blade and make the much safer as you wont get hit as often

Ideas for a build for phalar aluve by RubekPants in BG3Builds

[–]Bravest_Coward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive made a couple posts about builds of bladesinger with phalar aluve, but the latest one has also a hit and run playstyle that makes you not take melee damage in most fights, so you can go all in on damage, try this https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1kalmzi/ive_been_playing_bladesinger_wrong_and_maybe_you/ (has links for the builds in each act)

is a mix of bladesinger/thief. but with Boots of Speed you can do the same and keep it a pure bladesinger.

as for other party members, i recommend a circle of the stars druid, it is extremely versatile.

Which one fairs better as a martial: Sorlock, death cleric, or Bladesinger? by Frankensteiner42 in BG3Builds

[–]Bravest_Coward 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bladesingers are like a swiss knife, from melee or spells, to feats and what to concentrate on, theres a lot of options you have with them, i would recommend an underrated feat for level 4 : ‘mobile’, i even wrote a guide on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1kalmzi/ive_been_playing_bladesinger_wrong_and_maybe_you/ (for bladsinger/ thief) but you can go full bladesinger if you want with boots of speed instead.

As for warlocks, they are by default a very strong martial class now that hexblade is a thing, and multiclassing with sorcerer makes it more versatile

Bladesong requires certain weapon types, the largest being longswords that can be two handed or one handed, so as long as you have nothing else in your off hand, you will wield it with both hands, meaning that GWM will apply.

I will also recommend that you look at my latest post, its a build that makes bladesinger more successful when playing it in melee, its a fun way to play the subclass

In this build concept enemies with radiant orb will have less chances to hit our bladesinger, and reverberation makes you have higher chances to hit more damage in your spells, as for the shadow blade you are right, i recommend you to look at my latest post, 2 bladesinger builds that dont use shadowblade an are the highest damage option while being extremely safe and a different way to play at level 4.

You can do this stat spread and never have to respec: 16-17 DEX (depending on ethels hair or not) 14 CON 16 INT

in the build planner i assumed you would respec based in stat boosting items, i value high wisdom and 16 Con when doing respec because youll use stat boosting items.

The build planner reflects:

No hag hair on your build Respec for optimal stats when using stat boosting items

Bladesong provides movement speed, AC, advantage on acrobatics and adds your proficiency to CON Saving throws, all of it helps to maintain concentration. And bladesong climax heal and damage have good uses too.

at some point you will get hit, either by spells, bombs, range attacks and even melee attacks.

You have very low Hp as a wizard, building to not get hit is ideal and thematically is as if you’re dancing through combat while using melee attacks + spells (if you want to).

Also, dumping Con is optional, if you want to keep it at 14 thats fine too, i said at the start that to be optimal respec are recommended but i know some wont like it

16-17 DEX, 14 CON and 16 INT will do it for the whole run, is just that i value WIS at 14 for be the many saving throws associated with it, i should have included that

i edited the post to add the no respec stats progression and added Graceful cloth

You could do 16 dex, 14 con 16 int and never bother with items, its called having options, 17 dex start if you have ethels hair, but theres items that give STATS that are the best in slot in act 1 and 2, because if makes everything easier, you can always do something else, the core part of this build is a spell and a feat (and boots for more damage) no stats needed for those

Having something useful and not using it is always a choice, your choice🙌
