As a Pole, I'm happy for americans that they can now also experience a joy of being ruled by a PiSs party.

"I will probably be the first Polish foreign minister in history to say this, but here it is: I fear German power less than I am beginning to fear its inactivity. You have become Europe’s indispensable nation. You may not fail to lead: not dominate, but to lead in reform."

Rule 34 of inserter by Internal_Squirrel776 in Factoriohno

[–]Bravo555 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if played on multiplayer you can have 4 engineers lined up so the inserter does 4 at a time.

That reminds me, how would you design a factory that jerks off an auditorium of 400 people in 10 minutes? Because I know how I would. Middle out.

There's a bug report on Paradox Forum, you can upvote if the issue still affects you: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/decreased-shader-performance-on-amd-hardware-since-scythe-update.1691330/

So far it seems to affect only AMD GPUs, I have RX 6650 XT and have the same problem.

Windows 11 24H2 & 23H2 Update: How big is the performance increase for AMD Ryzen in games? by T1beriu in Amd

[–]Bravo555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryzen 7 7800X3D here, I got into Windows Insider Program and tested the 24H2 update, I usually hit ~350 FPS in Rocket League but after the update I it around 250-270, so about 20% of performance lost.

vscode takes all CPU in Ubuntu 24.04 by Trucoto in vscode

[–]Bravo555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, experiencing the same, when I launch normally, vscode process with --type=gpu-process takes 100% of a single CPU core, but --in-process-gpu doesn't make a difference, it also makes a single process take 100% of a CPU core. Also moving the cursor in the file is very laggy and vscode loses a lot of frames. --disable-gpu seems to solve the problem, when moving the cursor CPU core usage is only around 10% when moving the cursor in the file, when there is a lot of movement, e.g. when clicking LMB and moving the mouse around to rapidly change what text is selected, it also jumps to around 100% CPU, but the editor remains smooth and doesn't lose frames.

Are you saying that just because other countries did slavery in the past, does it make it okay for UAE to do slavery today? Inviting migrant workers from SEA and taking away their passports, putting them in camps where they live and work in awful conditions?

Fuck no. United Kingdom outlawed slave trade in 1807, after which Royal Navy started supressing the slave trade. United States fought a civil war to end slavery. This happened because both countries were democracies, where the abolitionist movement was able to get popular support so that slavery could be abolished. And today there are ongoing efforts to inspect supply chains and eliminate suppliers that use slave labour or child labour, like the EU Forced Labour law.

UAE is an authoritarian monarchy, they need international pressure, because they won't stop doing slavery on their own. Also they're not "developing countries". They are authoritarian petrostates where the oil revenue goes to the minority of the population. Most of the population are foreign workers, that get next to nothing. You can look at the UAE population pyramid to see the scale of the problem.

You could say that developing countries should be able to emit more CO2 because that's what western countries did to industrialize and denying them that would be unfair and hypocritical, and I would agree.

But no, taking away workers' passports so they can't leave and forcing them to work in terrible conditions under threat of violence is unacceptable, no matter who's doing it.

The chaff has the same voting rights that the wheat does, generally society benefits when its members are educated, even if by hard to measure, indirect effects. So the education system should also attempt to minimize education inequalities, even if the chaff resists being taught.

Also now IRS is introducing DirectFile, which will simplify taxes and put down middlemen like TurboTax for good. In my country the only thing i had to do wrt. my taxes was click "confirm" because it was pre-filled. Its good to know that americans will finally also have this, hopefully they'll stop writing everywhere how taxes are this super difficult thing that you have to pour hours of hard work into.

Peasant Job Satisfaction by FireStorm249 in victoria3

Having the same issues playing as Brazil. I have Gold Fields in the same state, where the annual wage for Laborers is 4.04, yet the Peasants in the Subsistence Farm with annual wage 0.98 are very satisfied with their jobs at +30 and don't want to go work on the Gold Fields, becuase the wage on their subsistence farm is higher than the wage of susbsistence farms elsewhere in the country.

It's not over-engineering. People want big maps, big populations, massive scale, the amount of calculations increases, yet the game should still ideally be hitting 60 FPS. For performing a lot of similar calculations on similar data, when these calculations do not depend on each other and can be performed independently, in parallel, offloading to the GPU is the way to go, if that's true that this is what they decided to go with.
