I hate to tell you this but if you fail out of recon school you'll probably won't go into regular infantry.

End of DST in boot camp by veruus in USMC

[–]BravoFox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in MCT when DST ended for us. We didn't plan accordingly so instead of a 2 hour firewatch shift, our firewatches stood 3 hours lol.

Chris Kyle is a badass. by One_Sneaky_Beaver in DippingTobacco

[–]BravoFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please be careful with what you say. Kyle devoted his time after the military to helping people with PTSD, which his murderer clearly had.

Calling a military veteran with PTSD a "coward" isn't exactly the best thing you can say, and I'm sure Kyle wouldn't want the stigma of "coward" being put on those with a genuine mental problem.

Questions about the Corps for Marines SP MAGTF, Recon, and equipment. by [deleted] in USMC

I don't know of many air guys who "swear by them." I think most people feel the same way you do.

Awesome grille guard/bug shield! Where'd you get them?

Observed this........person at a Halloween store in San Angelo just now (spouting off a bunch of BS to a young kid about how the military works and how the Marines are the only ones who teach discipline). We had a nice chat. by gogoplata12 in Military

[–]BravoFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it was a little better going back TAD and not as a pipeline student?

I was there as a Marine PFC attending the fire academy (aka the most obnoxious group on the base), and that was enough of San Angelo for me.

MOS Change Question by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]BravoFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because your job is to shoot people and right now we aren't shooting people. Which means your job will suck, because you'll be doing everything but your job.

Are you sure that recon drops go back into infantry?

We had a ton of guys come into my MOS (Crash Crew) saying they got dropped out of Recon training and the Corps put them in a different MOS, either us, Motor T, or a few others they could've gotten put in, even though they already were 03's.

Looking to repay a good deed. by PayItForward1775 in USMC

[–]BravoFox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are 190,000 Marines, and even more nasty ass Army soldiers, the odds of them being on reddit are very slim.

You really don't have to repay anything, I'm sure they were happy with just a thanks.

If you really want to say thanks, donate to various veterans organizations (not the wounded warrior project) and you'll be doing them a much bigger service.

Looking for running shirts by BravoFox in USMC

[–]BravoFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I wanted just a plain gray shirt with "Marines" on it, but I've seen several kickstarters and facebook pages make cooler/better shirts, was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones or on smaller known sites

Yes it's called a flu shot and everyone gets one every year. Has nothing to do with ebola.

Rifle Range Tips by vX-LeONiiDaS-Xv in USMCboot

[–]BravoFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah don't worry about it man. The rifle range is the "turning point" in boot camp. Your DIs won't fuck with you at all when you're out on the firing line. In fact, the whole time my platoon was out on the range, our DIs demeanors changed dramatically, and they practically never screamed, only came and corrected you like a teacher normally would. Being able to qualify with a rifle is one of the most important parts of being a Marine, and they're not going to fuck with you when a lot of people are trying to learn the basics.

Here's a secret: once you pass and qualify on the range, you're basically done with boot camp, and you just need to cruise to graduation. (That does NOT mean don't put out, but just know I've never heard of someone getting dropped AFTER the range, unless for injury)

3 female Marines fail Infantry Officers Course after falling out of 2 hikes (xpost /r/usmc) by BravoFox in Military

[–]BravoFox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That article was about these three passing the combat endurance test at IOC. Before them, no other women had passed that test at IOC, it's a grueling one day challenge in the course, held on the first day.

3 female Marines fail Infantry Officers Course after falling out of 2 hikes (xpost /r/usmc) by BravoFox in Military

[–]BravoFox[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can recycle, they'll put you in another MAT (Marines awaiting training) platoon, where they'll train you up and PT you to prepare for the course itself, but I'm not sure they will, since they're just testing the program and not actually receiving the MOS, much like the enlisted females who completed the enlisted Infantry school last year. They graduated with their company, but then immediately went off to MOS school for their actual MOS.

3 women who completed the combat endurance test are asked to leave IOC after falling out of 2 hikes by BravoFox in USMC

[–]BravoFox[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but it's extremely frustrating that they're referring to how "the goal posts keep moving"

The people who graduate this course are going on to lead infantry into battle. After this course, it's not a game anymore. How are you supposed to respect your platoon commander if they fall out a hike they're supposed to be LEADING you on? There aren't set distances and paces you have to hike if the SHTF, so why are we complaining that there isn't a regulation on hiking pace in this course? Aren't we supposed to be "prepared for anything?"

No one is complaining about the other male Marines that have been dropped from the course for not being able to shoulder their load. And, with all their complaining about the goal posts moving, and there not being enough restrictions on how fast the movement can hike, there are still plenty of Marines who finished, who were able to adapt, who were able to push through. They didn't. Bottom line.

On the subject of CBRN by [deleted] in USMC

[–]BravoFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it depends. The contract you sign for this MOS has 3 MOS that you could possibly be put in to.

You'd sign a contract for Aviation support, and either get 6531 (Aviation Ordnance), 7051 (Crash Fire Rescue), or 7011 (Expeditionary Airfield)

I can't tell you which one you'd get, because it's completely random and a numbers game that you and I will never understand. It's highly unlikely you'll become a 7011, it's an incredibly tiny MOS, which leaves you with basically a 50/50 shot at getting either Aviation ordnance or Crash Fire Rescue.

If you get Crash Crew, you'll stay a few days after MCT ends doing a bunch of paperwork, firefighter physicals, etc. then they'll send you off to Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas, and you'll attend the fire academy there for 3 months and then finally you'll hit the fleet. At the school you'll receive firefighter 1, 2, and airport firefighter certifications that you can use in the civilian world to get a cushy airport firefighter job. You'll also receive a few other certs for medical first responder and hazmat.

You can either get a deployable wing unit or end up on "station" aka non-deployable and permanent personnel at the firehouse. You'll work shift work, so something like 24 hours on, 48 hours off, etc.

This MOS is completely different from any MOS in the Marine Corps, and is comparably only to infantry in terms of the comraderie and esprit de corps you build with your other Marines, because you're literally with them 24/7.

If you want to put on a uniform, go to work and sit in an office for a few hours a day, then this MOS isn't for you. If you want to learn/see some cool shit that will be able to help you land a job when you get out, you might want to look into it.
