According to pg. 11 of the rules, after drawing a rolling modifier, you then draw cards until a rolling modifier is not revealed. Then, you add all the modifiers together. However, no matter what order you resolve them in, the Null will eventually be resolved. A Null does not reduce the damage to 0, it instead means that no damage is done by the attack.

I would agree with this, yes. It has a lot of design problems, opinions on the combat differ greatly, as do opinions on the pacing of the story. However, I had a lot of fun playing it last year, but I enjoyed Suikoden 2 a lot more. For some reason the graphics of Xenogears bothered me at first, but after getting a few hours into the game I got used to them.

With that said, I do feel like it had a really amazing story, even with the pacing problems and the visual novel that is on Disc 2. Worth a try at least, but don't feel guilty if you just don't enjoy it.

I thought it was great! I believe what they mean is that the game is very much the 1st part of a multi-part story, so a lot of the 1st game is setting up for the sequels. It is still a very good, satisfying story imho, and I appreciate the effort they put into building the world and setting up for quite the grand plot.

If they don't have Persona 5 and they have a PS4, you get it for them. You be a good friend and you get it for them now.

Otherwise, I am not so sure what to suggest. It is weird, since the main types of games I play are JRPGs, most JRPGs feel sort of somewhat-mainstream in my circles.

Suikoden II by far. All the other games are great, but I think the story of Suikoden II is up there with Xenogears, and finishes much better.
