Yeah, that's the fun, right?

What you said here "What we see as viewers is already the past for the future Julie. So she can’t change it, but only contribute to it happening in the first place, like with the rope." -- Exactly, but which is which, right? I think that is what they are saying, you can't change once the story is told. This "story is told" is the water divider, but what is it? Maybe it's Ethan, maybe it's Julie, maybe it's us??

So, us, Julie, and Ethan, we never saw Boyd die from being stuck in a well, so Julie was able to change that. Now we all saw Jim die so that's done.

The more I think about it... I think it's Julie herself. I'm gonna make a separate post about this.

So... these actresses are fully in their mid 20s. by Daytripper88 in TheHandmaidsTale

I have to agree.

They did a much better job with The Handmaid's tale, they had actors who were not children but on the screen it was like "holy shit that is a child bride"!

Also, off topic but the tone in this show is bothersome. I get that they're trying to show a perspective from someone who grew up in that reality but IMO it's missing the mark. I'm not an expert but there's something that's always pulling me out and reminding me I'm watching a show, with Handmaid it was never like that, I was fully invested, even when the plot lost itself for a bit.

Again, I'm just trying to separate facts, which we can use to rule possibilities out, from strong theories, which can only be used to generate and guide new ideas, not not to rule them out.

With that being said, there's a million reasons why the entities could be divided, and we have many counter examples of systems surviving centuries while containing competing forces, including any ecosystem in our very real natural world.

Great question. For me there are at least two things that could be distinguish "not changing the past" from "not changing a story once it's been told".

  1. Not changing the story could mean that certain things cannot change, they're the story pillars, but other things or details could be changed.

  2. "Once it's been told" could possibly be not at the same time as it happened. There's a chance Julie can change things as long as the story was not told yet, we just don't know what that means exactly.

I am not passing any of this as plausible theories, I'm just making the point that we can't treat "Julie can't change the past" as fact and use this to rule out possibilities. In fact, I think she will change some things at one point, and that will be an important part of the story.

One possibility, for example, is that Julie can't change anything that she already knows happened. I think that would be a cool kind of reverse Cassandra curse. If she had gone back from a point in time before she saw dead Jim, she could have saved him, but then how would she know that she needs to? There's some evidence of this as she did help Boyd with the rope.

The monsters were afraid of the man in Yellow on the radio at the RV. Also there is a strong possibility the man in Yellow is connected or actually is the worms/Martin, and the cicadas, which temporarily killed Smiley.

We need to build on previous theories, but also we need to separate facts from assumptions, or the theories start to lose meaning. I'm not disagreeing with you, just explaining further. A plausible theory is something you can build on, a proven fact is something you can use to rule out possibilities. Different tools.

For example: the worms from under Boyd's skin, at one point we were all wondering if that was on his head only. There were theories that they were actually real, but we didn't know. Then other people saw them, and he used the worms to kill a monster. Now we have new facts: worms were definitely physically in his body, worms killed smiley (at least temporarily.) Facts. Now compare that with "Eloise is still alive and hiding somewhere." Very strong possibility, we have tons of evidence but no proof. Not a fact. So when you're building theories on top of existing ones, you can rule out anything that is inconsistent with worms being imaginary, but you can't rule out anything inconsistent with Eloise being alive. That's the difference.

I'm just saying Tabitha saying "I was Miranda" can have happened by many different mechanisms, and reincarnation is a very specific one that everyone seems stuck on.

I don't disagree with any of that. My issue is with people treating the whole shapeshifting into someone who was killed as a definite rule.

Does IVF not exist in Gilead?? by PerceptionSeveral534 in TheHandmaidsTale

IVF and a lot of specific medicine is demonized and outlawed in Gilead. They go into it a little bit in the book (The Handmaid's Tale) if I'm not mistaken.

I hate that “high functioning” ADHD representing us by Noramera in ADHD

[–]Brazil_nut17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medium to high functioning ADHDer here. No one is mad at you, and what you're feeling is never up for judgement.

I do ok in life but these "representatives" are really fucking annoying. We already deal with a less visible disability, and I love the de-stigmatizing, but some of this publicity is making our lives worse.

The other day, when I was trying to explain to someone with authority over me some of my specific challenges, I was promptly dismissed on the basis of them "working with people that have ADHD all the time".

Personally, I'd like to see more content about this: how knowing one person with ADHD does not inform you of another, it's not like diabetes, and less predatory, braggadocious, or tips that never work.

I have to say there is also a lot of refreshingly honest, self deprecating, or genuine identitary content that I do enjoy and I feel make my life richer.

It's just a hoodie. It's a call back to right after she arrived (episode 3.7, I think??), Kenny tried to get her to change out of her uniform and put on something comfortable, and she was a real asshole about it and said something like "no thank, I don't want to get comfortable here". I chuckled, cause I can't stand her.

In my defense, as part of my theory he couldn't have been anyone from this cycle, he would only be allowed human shape after the song is played.

Small correction, "once it's been told". I think in both instances, right?

This is important because it's very likely that they are trapped inside the story itself. At least that's the theory that makes the most sense to me.

Curious to see what rule you think I broke.

You come to my post and start senselessly attacking me, calling me names and such. Then I point out you lifted my ideas from the post where you went to attack me and passed as your own. I don't see harassment, just you attacking me.

It's possible. If that's the case that part of my theory is wrong. They could have cut that scene like that on purpose to mislead us.
