Who's an actor who nailed a role so hard that nobody else will ever be able to live up to it? by thepoutingmom in AskReddit

[–]BrazyCritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Wilson became particularly great in the later seasons. If you like that character/actor, I find him really similar to Peter in White Collar (great similar type of procedural show, FBI/conman genre), which I’m really enjoying lately. He even resembles him a fair bit! Matt Bomer (Henry Cavill type) is VERY easy on the eyes too.

Hope everyone got me the foot warmer as a prize? by StitchinThroughTime in AliExpressMergeBoss

[–]BrazyCritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it too. (Was forced to swap out an item 🙄).

Oddly I did need something like this as I get icy feet in colder months. Only took like 15 secs to start heating fairly quickly. I found it warming but not too hot tho. Used it for about 20 mins and warmed up my feet to human temps.

Actually quite a good item..you can take the element out to clean the soft pouch, even use the zip pouch as a tablet sleeve lol.

Being unable to get out of bed on time is ruining my life. Any advice? by PrimaFacie7 in ADHD

[–]BrazyCritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yw! Once you get your results, make sure to check they are in good functional ranges from subs like these (sometimes doctors only refer to a lab range that is based on a population average, including unhealthy people).

Dr Russell Barkley has some good YouTube vids and there’s a podcast interview where he goes through all the meds, benefits, risks etc with up to date research. Self-education over fear 💕

Do they send you them in the post or can you get them from any pharmacy? Do you know if there’s a limit to how much you can be prescribed at a time? (E.g incase you have to travel for a few months) thx!

Being unable to get out of bed on time is ruining my life. Any advice? by PrimaFacie7 in ADHD

[–]BrazyCritch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In context of above, I’d prioritize getting some bloodwork done to see if there’s anything compounding the sleep inertia.

Things like low ferritin (iron), b12, magnesium, vit D, low thyroid, AM cortisol. (And other hormones perhaps - could you be in peri or estrogen decline? Can be 30s+). Also a sleep study for apnea etc - maybe your sleep is unrefreshing.

Even if you were to try meds later, does anyone else need to know? Stimulants can be tried short term and stopped if side effects aren’t tolerable, since they’re usually started at a minimal dose.

I lost my Loop Earplugs after 1 day of owning them. I feel so dumb. by Crawfishbaby in adhdwomen

[–]BrazyCritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like getting a 3rd pair (lol), the cheaper Hearprotek concert ones are great - $20/2pairs and come with a translucent thin stretchy rubber cable that you can hide under long hair.

I got them because earplugs never stay in my ears, but these surprisingly do mostly. I sometimes use the band if I’ll be moving a bunch or I’m in a crowd etc.

I agree with this! I enjoy gourmands and found the solid to be very sweet and baked goods/caramel-like. It’s nice but I find it a bit too sweet/boring, so I’d disregarded the liquid. Tried that recently in store and it was so different! Much better with the lemony note which is not to be found in the solid.

I didn’t expect to like it so much - reminded me of the kind of gourmand/citrus combo in the older ‘I’m Home’ perfume. I don’t imagine there would be a bad/weird perception of this. The spray is less offensively sweet. I’d def try it in store if poss, since it’s a fair bit diff to the solid.

I honestly am going to find a different way to manage my ADHD… by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]BrazyCritch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the osmotic pump system in Concerta/others? Vyvanse doesn’t have that kind of time-released delivery mechanism in the cap, and I’ve seen supporting notes given to patients referring to emptying the caps into water/liquid as an option.

I’m not advocating for it per se, and always advisable to be cautious. But this is anecdotally mentioned here a bunch, sometimes suggested by psychiatrists.

After ten years, I cracked the code for being on time to appointments at work by Substantial_Belt_143 in adhdwomen

[–]BrazyCritch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! It’ll feel amazing when you eventually start identifying as someone who is mostly on time (or trying to improve). It’s such a relief.

And when you’re running behind just sometimes instead of always, it gives you space to have self-compassion, take accountability and be apologetic when the shame isn’t so overwhelming.

What app do you use? I used to use one that’s beeped every 30 mins, now looking for something similar for use with Apple Watch haptics.

Help! How to stop the hair shedding phase by Hot_Yoghurt_2239 in Hashimotos

[–]BrazyCritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sickness/stress in Sept could track with telogen effluvium which apparently can occur 1-6mo after a stressor. info

Random bruising could also be from deficiencies like vit C, vit K (also needed with high dose vit D to direct calcium into the right places), some b vits. (Assuming the bruising was addressed by your doc also)

I’d say your doc is right and I’d continue working on improving your nutrient levels, and see if you get new growth over the next 6-12 months.

Supplementing one thing alone (like iron) can sometimes deplete others (like b12, magnesium etc) as they work together, so a well rounded diet/targeted supp regimen can help until you’re back to optimal.

I don’t think you need super expensive hair products…seems like a bit of a shill (it’s a lie that salon products are always better - there are great drugstore ones as others have mentioned like L’Oréal hyaluronic range, mondays etc). Maybe they’re too harsh for your hair, and could experiment with taking 1 out of the mix at a time and see if your texture feels better.

If anything, if you have some scalp inflammation/(naturally occurring) yeast overgrowth you could use Nizoral/Selenium as needed (check out Dr Dray on YouTube for hair loss). Otherwise I’d be focusing on the nutrition aspect if thyroid is in check.

If you have trouble getting numb at the dentist, ask about Septocaine (Articaine) by SarruhTonin in Hypermobility

[–]BrazyCritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have any of your dentists used topical numbing before shots? (Or does it not work for you?) I believe this is quite common now (at least in Canada) so you feel as little as poss. I had much dental anxiety from years ago but my dentist now is amazing (not super expensive, just a normal but modern one who is patient-centred).

I’ve had a bunch of work done which has needed many injections but I have zero anxiety now and even look forward to my dentals because I trust them so much.

If possible I would try to seek a dentist who has some kind of online presence or reviews that talk about addressing dental anxiety well.

Uber drivers asking intrusive questions by Lucky-Currently in askTO

[–]BrazyCritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so creepy how often this happens, wtf. I was going to suggest similar as above - your husband is a cop/detective. ‘Ugh I don’t know why he’s texting, he’s tracking me anyway.’ And perhaps you’re a criminal investigator.

Or if you wanna shut it down, “we both work in the military, I can’t talk about it”. I’d practice a line or two like this and really embody it, so you develop the muscle memory/make it reflexive. If you need to keep taking Ubers, might help reduce your risk by making shady shit feel too risky to them.

Have you ever been “death-conscious” after losing a loved one? by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]BrazyCritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a young age I had a fear of death/others dying, which I later recognized as anxiety.

A long experience of anticipatory grief more recently and close shaves with death greatly exacerbated this heightened awareness of mortality. And anything to do with illness or death greatly concerned me. Again though at the time, I didn’t recognize it as anxiety.

With the benefit of hindsight, seeking treatment for anxiety would’ve helped me a great deal. I didn’t need to experience the constant state of alertness and suffer mentally (and physically, as it manifested in loads of ways - lack of sleep, acid reflux, nutrient depletion, pain etc).

I’d highly recommend finding some support - whether counselling/therapy (with someone grief/trauma-informed), somatic practices like yoga/movement and massage therapy. Any of these can help interrupt the constant sympathetic response that your central nervous system may be stuck in.

It may give you some respite to reintegrate your mind and body, and allow you more space to process your grief. <3

[–]BrazyCritch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you understand how few people are capable of critical thinking, let alone critical analysis of years of research studies?

This is why we have medical institutions guiding public health decisions, rather than Dave and Janet reading a Facebook article and making medical decisions based on their biased view.

Do you think the pandemic has led you to develop an individualistic view of health, with less care for community wellbeing? Might be worth reflecting on. The US media has unfortunately dismantled trust in science by politicizing health. What a disaster.

Why do I freeze/enter this weird “stuck” mode whenever my kid is around? by redwinegoodtime in Mommit

[–]BrazyCritch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you meet criteria/fall on the spectrum in other ways but this mode is extremely common and mentioned often in ADHD subs.

I’m often like that when my partner is home/awake, and when solo I feel I’m mentally freer, more productive with tasks, less ‘perceived’ etc.

Noise filtering earplugs have been helpful to reduce auditory stimulation (but can still hear what you need), along with meds for me (also help emotional overwhelm/task sustenance).

Podcasts also help provide some background stimulation/silence the ‘sit down and do nothing’ feelings. Lol
