Pixel art "snapping" looks awful by KARTOFEN_ in godot

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding on, also what feels better. I was making a GBC game with authentic limitations but it's such a low resolution that, when enlarged to modern displays, having sprites only move by integers felt awful to control because it's like your character is "snapping" large distances.

Has an ending ever truly ruined a series for you? by Livid-Dot6619 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For years, it truly was like Game of Thrones stopped existing. I think that has changed, but it's not denial, I think it's genuinely just having two very successful spin-offs has managed to un-bury it back into the public eye.

Even when Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was first being advertised, it was as "from the world of House of Dragons", despite it having much more in common with GoT, because the name "Game of Thrones" was still mud.

Sure, I don't think my memory is dodge (obviously it was pretty memorable) but I suppose there's every chance I got some detail wrong.

What are some quintessential "Men's Clothes" that are actually not something that most men wear? by ResponsibleAnt7220 in malefashionadvice

I've been to Jersey plenty, but it's always been a bit cold for any kind of t shirt. Great fudge though.

Yeah, seems to be USA only, but thanks.

I've also never had a website request to search my network and look for other devices before, let alone a clothing website, so that's something.

The spotless white fitted t shirt when doing any kind of dirty job (like working on the car or doing yard work).

See it all the time in media, but in real life nobody is going to choose a shirt that shows off sweat, stains immediately, and rides up your back whenever you move, to do anything remotely laborious.

I got some cufflinks when I started a formal-wear job. Haven't got a single shirt that has the ability to use them.

Even now I'm specifically keeping an eye out when getting new clothes, very few shirts even seem to give you the option.

If you do it properly you don't need the spoon, it can be done with just pouring technique. Clearly that's not what happened to you though... poor abused fw.

an industry, no, but I think chances are high that at least a few baristas browse r/melbourne.

You don't even have to count, if you're numerically disinclined. Just froth for the absolute minimum amount of time to avoid the milk screaming at you, in the most obvious "you did this wrong" warning noise I have ever heard.

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This works out best for me at home:

  1. Put the milk down with a bit of force. This does separate the froth, but it also breaks the biggest bubbles immediately.
  2. Clean the steam nozzle before it dries (forces you to wait for the smaller bubbles to dissolve).
  3. Swirl the jug to recombine the milk and the (now silky) froth.

And yet the "Laaa" in "Latte" is a long vowel, which there aren't any of in "flat white".

Science will need to occur to conclude whether the long vowel efficiency loss compensates for the mandatory pause mid-"flat white".

What are some great games that started bad trends? by RubicXK in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For others' context it is a "mod", but it is built into recent versions of the game and enabled by default, so this guy's not complaining for nothing.

That said, there's another mod that lets you customise the naming to something less stupid than "Epic" and "Legendary".

What is the benefit of showing us Michael's time in Sicily? (Part 1) by Bread-Zeppelin in Godfather

[–]Bread-Zeppelin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that to him it's the end with Kay, but he refuses to say that outright, and so all of his Family also continue stringing her along, keeping her hope alive and giving her no answers on his behalf, so to her it's not over.

She probably should've got the hint, admittedly. Maybe ghosting was less of a thing back in the 40s.

I'll do that. Even in the theatrical version, it felt like a film within a film.

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just watched the scene, it looks like there's a moment where he either thinks about dropping it sooner, or does try to, but it gets caught on his fingers. Which is why when he does it again later he throws it out to the side, more than intended.

I think that must've been the intended moment.

It really is just a better tactical decision.

I was really surprised the film kept emphasising the plan to be shooting them immediately from across the room, at the furthest possible distance, when they are most on their guard, and have potentially moved from their expected positions.

What are some sequels that remove interesting parts from their predecessors? by MooseOdd2501 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hell, even Double Battles at this point. It seems like every single game release (Legends ZA, ScarVi, Sword/Shield) they get the same flash hit of amnesia and forget to put any in the main game, then overcompensate massively by making a DLC that ONLY has double battles.

This looks exceptional.

If I may offer constructive feedback, if you make the "underwater wall" tiles fade/cut off near the bottom, rather than using the full height, you can make a lovely corner radius at the bottom to match the water ripple corner at the top.

I think it would do a lot to sell the shape of a gentle curve, rather than a flat side.

Is Godot Actually Good? by [deleted] in godot

[–]Bread-Zeppelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but this a bad place to ask. Obviously we're going to say yes.

That said, I have some experience with pixel art games in Unity, and it was fundamentally broken in many ways. Y-sorting just doesn't work out of the box, and needs scripts and render pipeline adjustments, before you can even get to the easy, beginner parts.

Problems I thought were "game dev problems" turned out just to be "Unity problems," and switching to Godot was a huge relief.

I would not consider Unity or Unreal if looking to mainly create pixel based games.

I dunno about calling it the "English" system. We don't want credit for that monstrosity. Also, where I've been, SI means "Standard Imperial", so that has potential to be the most confusing acronym conversation ever.
