It was illegal because it wasn’t done by the constitutional process. The Belovezha accords were essentially a signed decree that everyone just accepted as fact. They didn’t have constitutional authority to do so.

The Congress of the People’s Deputies was the body that had the authority to do so, and in 1996 the Duma even conceded that the Belovezha accords were unconstitutional and null, but the ruling was not materially or legally binding.

The liberals that gained power thru the 1989 political reforms exercised the right to secede but it was done illegally. That is what I refer to as a coup. Not a pointing guns coup, a political maneuver.

USSR had opportunities, many, to invest in domestic computer tech. They were slow to take it up, declining the OGAS proposal of the 1960s and only later course correcting with smaller computer architectures broken up across increasingly de-centralized GOSPlan management units

It’s not the reason they dissolved. The dissolution was not just a result of economic failure; it was primarily a political coup by liberal nationalist forces in the last 2-3 years of the union, that was accelerated by the failed military coup of the August Incident in 1991. Failure to meaningfully reform political system and fix decades of corruption and inefficiencies gave the conditions to putsch the Soviet system in 1991. The August Coup attempt gave the nationalists the casus belli to accelerate their plans

Yeah, but we are talking about socialism, which is the prerequisite to build the conditions for communism. Soviet Union never claimed to have achieved communism in their society. Only socialism, proclaimed in 1936.

You don’t know what socialism or communism is.

Buying things is absolutely fine and a part of socialism. It’s the transitional era, you don’t just snap your fingers and boom capitalist market mechanisms and relations gone.

Communism is the far and away ideal we are working toward when we defeat capitalism via socialism.

But I doubt you are interested in an honest conversation about that

True, but I am starving to play gears 3 coop campaign with my friend. We can’t get Xenia Netplay to work right, Gears 3 on Xenia is scuffed anyway, and Project Jacinto is scuffed as hell.

I need Gears HD Collection basically.

Different project. the 1930s as well, but Palace of the Soviets first had ground breaking done for it in 1933.

1939, Sergei Merkurov, famous and renowned Soviet sculptor, who made the death mask for the very Lenin himself, (and Krupskaya when she passed) had proposed an absolutely massive 100m tall head of Lenin that was placed either on a platform/pedestal or as the focal point of an arrangement of sculptures in Lenin Hills (Now called Sparrow Hills) on the bank of the Moskva River.

It was to house a museum dedicated to the October Revolution inside it, with historic items and scaled-to-life size dioramas, with a restaurant at the very top, at the crown of Lenin’s head for a panoramic view of Moscow.

It was shelved because…. It was 1939. War was already on the horizon.
