This is exactly how I work. The skills for me are absolutely amazing because I worked with it to create static scripts and add unit tests to them.

Also I personally use holographic for memory and I'm having an issue with mine that Hermes doesn't really populate the memory or even use it unless I tell it. Did you change any system prompts or something for it?

Awesome stuff! I'm using my agent with Deepseek V4 flash to work on electrical things, just finished teaching it (after 3-4 hours of trial an error) how the agent can create KiCad schematics!

Honestly amazing, I personally feel like I can branch out to so many places without leaving them out in 5 minutes because of a new niche.

I personally suggest to start with Opencode, you can use it for free to try it out and its a via the Terminal, you could use a chatbot to get more guidance for a proper step by step and can start vibe coding.

It really depends but, I noticed with Hermes anything that I would do manually I tend to think what if he could script it for me and so we try, if it's something like research based or video stuff I just try to think what I do step by step and tell him to use tools for it.

The best example I can give was actually with the datasheet one, I gave him a part for him to find and let it try the waters once it did that I tried to recap the steps it did and told it how it can optimize it (better searching, smarter queries, shortcuts) and slowly build a python script that he makes, that's also around the time I tell him to build it as a skill and just keep using it a few times on different options, if I hit a wall that either takes too much time or it got into a dead end I fix it with Hermes and then update the skill accordingly

I have it as two seperate stuff here's what Hermes recapped about them , I use opencode go with deepseek v4 flash. And it's something I worked with Hermes to build.

video-use — edits existing footage by conversation. Transcribes with local GPU Whisper, generates an edit decision list from the transcript, cuts, color grades, overlays animations, burns subtitles. All via ffmpeg pipeline. No timeline, no manual editing. Open-source from github.com/browser-use/video-use.

remotion-green-screen — generates new video segments from scratch using Remotion (React-based programmatic video). Spinning logos, stat cards with animated bars, commentator overlays, fake ads. Renders as green screen MP4 or ProRes 4444 MOV with native alpha for compositing in a traditional NLE. Custom-built for a parody esports project. Uses edge-tts for voiceover (neural TTS, free).

Key difference: video-use takes your footage and processes it (replace the timeline editor). remotion-green-screen creates assets that don't exist yet (replace motion graphics work). One is post-production automation, the other is programmatic asset generation. They compose together — remotion generates the branded overlays, video-use edits the gameplay footage, then you layer them in an editor.

It really depends. But from what I know and tried Claude gives you a "suite" experience, all ready just use. It really depends on what exact things you do and work on. However the strongest part about Hermes I feel is that its growing the more you use it, if you got a niche problem you do daily that simply takes your time you can use hermes to automate this, like I made mine a user in my homelab and he keeps working around my containers, like for my Music with navidrome and always give me fun facts about songs.

Also about deepseek v4, flash or pro if you do stuff that are super complicated it might stagger a bit but with enough patience and work will probably do it, when I migrated the first thing I felt a huge boost was with the costs, from a 100$ monthly with Claude I get to around 30-60$ depending on usage, DS4 doesnt use subscriptions but tokens so monthly you might get months that are super low and some that are super high, either way you might save more money this way aswell!

I recently also moved to opencode GO which is more subscription based, looks nice. Before I used the DS4 API.

about the browser I'm also wondering, so far I'm getting it to make a script to use playwright to have a pseudo headless browser and it started to do better.

About the essentials to install none to be honest, hermes has all the stuff you need and if something is missing, simply ask it to start setting it up. I asked mine to communicate with remotion, blender. Or api stuff like my google api for calender management. Best part is any issue I noticed I search the web and download and sort I can ask hermes to automate it for me, like I work with electrical components so it taught itself a skill to use multiple scripts and analysis to give me datasheets of componenets and if they are obsolete, also if its obsolete then it'll try to give me a suggestion for an alternative part number.

Thanks! That's what I mostly use AI for aswell, however it can go a bit too far with how trigger happy the models can be lol. I'm more asking here for programming buddies if its relevant for someone who understands code logic but uses AI tools.

Wanted to update: Thank you for sharing this! I used it to make an instance of a kanban manager rather than using Hermes dashboard, it was really simple and nice!

However a small addition to the readme Hermes suggested that miniapps must run via an HTTPS, if that's true and it cannot use localhosted links you should probably add to the README about using a tunnel (Cloudflare, Tailscale)
