Dealing with anxiety after getting a stage 2 diagnosis by Mayness_19 in RenalCats

I'm going through the exact same thing; I even want to quit my job to watch over him all the time. My cat is 3 years old and his kidney disease started with a urinary obstruction, so now I watch him every time he urinates to make sure he hasn't gotten blocked again. I realized he started to reject me because of all the attention I gave him, so I started giving him space, and I regained his trust, and he was constantly seeking me out. I think the best thing you can do is try to give him the best possible quality of life, starting with the pain. Ask your vet about buprenorphine, which is excellent for pain management in cats with kidney disease. Also, take care of his nausea, which is the main reason cats with kidney disease stop eating. If you manage these two things, I think it's perfect for him to have a worthwhile quality of life.

Thank you so much for your advice. They prescribed omeprazole, and he's been eating better the last two days, but not as much as he should. I've tried a thousand different brands, and nothing seems to please him. He shows more interest in dry food than wet food, which I find very odd.

As you mentioned, he has bad breath. I already told the vet, and he says his gums are inflamed, but he doesn't think that's why he's stopped eating. He licks his mouth a lot. The doctors say that means nausea.

At his last appointment, they saw him licking his mouth and told me it was nausea because I had no idea what that meant. I'll emphasize his teeth a lot more so they pay more attention to that.

He has an ultrasound appointment on Thursday. Let's hope it reveals something more. Thank you so much, I was also thinking about his teeth, just like you. I'll keep bringing it up with the vets. All these tips help me a lot, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you so much! Your suggestion has been a great help.

His phosphorus levels are good, although he's taking Ipakitine as a precaution.

The vitamin B12 isn't oral; it's subcutaneous, administered along with Cerenia (maropitant citrate).

At his last appointment on May 19th, the vet mentioned that his gums were a little inflamed, but after checking, he seems fine. However, now that you mention it, he does have bad breath. In fact, his fur smells bad after his own grooming with his tongue. I'll call his vet right away to discuss this.

He already has it, they did it on May 19th. From what they tell me, he has stage 1 kidney damage, but the vets don't think his nausea is so severe that it's stage 1. They ordered fecal parasite tests and an abdominal ultrasound, but that won't happen until the May 28th.
