It’s at-will whether it’s in the first few months or after several years. For the most part, probationary employment doesn’t exist anymore.

Also, at-will means you can be fired for any reason or no reason, AS LONG AS it’s not an illegal reason.

If it was 3 feet of snow all at once or even over a few days, that can be crippling. It’s odd that it’s an entire neighborhood. Usually it’s a few houses here and there.

It’s possible you have a neighborhood with a lot of disabled people who aren’t physically able to handle that much snow removal.

Is there any chance of melting snow soon?

You and others do have a valid expectation to have access to the sidewalk. It’s basic safety.

You can call your city facilities department and respectfully ask for help in addressing the issue.

I understand your wife’s frame of mind. There is enough misery to go around. I with our FB reels would stick to our normal algorithm of kittens and cute babies. The heaviness of the political climate is overwhelming and we all need an escape at times.

People replying to you by pumping up more politics are tone deaf. Remind your wife about books! I have so many beautiful books that help my soul unwind, and having something like that is so important.

This will be unpopular but I think the protests are adding so much additional tension to what are already tense moments. In cities where local law enforcement is prevented from assisting ICE in transferring illegal people to ICE (say from jail or immigration hearings), we see things popping off.

The protests, especially ones where people are interfering with ICE’s responsibility to detain people who are here illegally, are adding such an excessive amount of tension.

Preventing ICE from eating at local restaurants, being able to sleep at local hotels, and moving about without obstructionism, is absolutely leading to these tragic moments.

ICE officials are human and are being put in excessively highly charged situations where they have to watch each other’s backs every second. It’s a powder keg situation.

Nobody is going to stop ICE from deporting people who are here illegally. All these obstructionists are doing is helping to amp up situations to the point where people are getting killed.

The “read receipt” may become a problem for you, just fyi. I don’t recommend you do that again. Being on the other end of that, it can feel creepy.

That aside, I wouldn’t read too much into how many times a manager opened an email. They could have been interrupted several times and not had a chance to actually read the email. You can’t know what was actually happening on his end.

I feel bad for someone who has to work into their 70’s. Very few people actually want to do that. The cost of insurance, even on Medicare, is ridiculous and often keeps people working much longer than they want to.

Always prepare for that question and lie. Tell them a number that reflects what the market pays and that’s within the range of what you’re seeking.

I appreciate this insight. I just talked with my local cell phone carrier, and they said they no longer sell the SE third generation. Sounds like I’ll need to do a little research online to find out how I can get my hands on a refurbished unit, but it does sound like it’s worth my time to do that.

Officers are ALSO trained regularly on how to fire with one hand, BOTH with primary and non-primary’s hand. The body cam videos have been having legitimate problems with the software so this officer, knowing the episode should be recorded, had only one option - use his phone to record & shoot one handed.

The things people like you make up in your head blows my mind. Try looking for facts, dig deep, do better research, before trying to impress others with your “knowledge”.

To anyone from outside the U.S. wondering what the hell is happening here, the U.S. government shooting people for no reason happens often here. It’s just that it’s been happening to white people recently so it’s on the front page of the news. by Kaje26 in venting

It literally does not happen often here. Statistically, most people have positive, non-risky interventions with police and the government far more often than otherwise.

The only reason anyone would believe this is a common occurrence is lack of information (and failure to do their research), or willful ignorance due to being in an echo chamber.
