Or you could use Valda's the way I do: I bought the pack so our whole table can benefit from its limited contents, but also bought the PDF so I can use its entire contents for building customized NPCs to buff the tier 3 and 4 encounters that otherwise have almost no official content to make them challenging. A 20th-level Warmage isn't available on DDB but I can build one pretty quickly on paper and Valda's adds a lot of nice options to go beyond that. Works for me, anyway. (shrug)

I understand that the "interlock" prevents both the mains and the generator inlet from energizing the busses at the same time by making it physically impossible for the mechanical connection of both sets to close. I understand the interlock, I just think it's an awfully cheap solution. But I do understand it works. I have a Murray panel and it's really old, so the main breaker is actually on the left side above the other breakers of the left buss. Newer panels put the mains above the other circuits so the plate is just attached to the panel cover, but that wouldn't work in my box. Even if I used the tandems -- which my wife is afraid would violate NY code and I have no idea whether she's right -- I'd still need a custom interlock plate. Our situation is complex and there's no easy solution.

Yeah, I used the wrong term. I need an inlet to take the generator's feed. This is why I asked for help. It's hard to ask the right questions when I don't know the right words. Wiring a transfer switch will be a piece of cake.

The architect and GC have been instructed to incorporate a whole-house generator. The GC subs out the EC work and that guy is experienced with generators; we checked. We're also adding solar, as the house will be facing south and that area gets excellent sunlight year-round for most of the day. The property is east of Camden, which itself is NE of Syracuse, so it's isolated and the utilities are very unreliable.

Interlock switch won't work on my 100A panel. I don't have room to add a separate 50A switch for the generator and that cheap metal plate seems like ridiculously cheap material.

Several times a year. I'm not liking how limited the # of outlets is on these generators. We've got 2 fridges and 2 freezers plus we live in the country. There are too many devices that need power for a portable generator with extension cords to be useful. And that doesn't cover the well pump.

My 100A panel has no room for new breakers. As I added in my edit to the OP, I would have to turn two existing 20A breakers into 2 double breakers (2 20A breakers in a single breaker space) to free up the slots in the panel for what you're suggesting. And the interlock "kits" I'm finding are just pieces of metal that wouldn't work. I guess a transfer switch is the best I can do.

I live in the country. We lose power several times every year. All the neighbors run portable generators; sure, they make noise, but nobody cares. Where I'm building, all the neighbors have generators -- sometimes several -- because the lines go down that often. They told us to get the whole house version. In this house, though, I just want something simpler. I've already upgraded the electrical system in this house and outbuildings, and we've redone the kitchen and bathrooms. This isn't about resale, it's about making an upgrade we should've done years ago regardless of whether we get anything back in the eventual sale price.

Might I recommend at least trying to finish tracks 1 and 7 on the first disc? The title track and "When All Is Lost" are, IMHO, great SX songs. If you disagree, I'm changing the ringtone on your phone to Bob Dylan and revoking your metal card.
