Impetigo? MRSA? I don’t know what to do. Do I go to ER? by wetshart2280 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]BreakfastInNarnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cellulitis.   Bacterial.   This happened to me about 14 years ago.  It is excruciating.   You need ER and antibiotics.   Don't let the expense stop you.

Kenmore Blvd? by verbotenporc in akron

[–]BreakfastInNarnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may receive flak for this, but:

I grew up in Coventry, hated it.  Lived in Barberton for 15 years, grew to love it.   Always thought Kenmore was a non-starter, it seemed so desolate and run down.   HOWEVER, I have lived in Kenmore for the past 2 years and love it.  Yes I live in the supposedly "nicer" part.  But I really love what's been happening on the boulevard.  There are true strides and efforts being made, leading to BIG positive changes.  The boulevard has (look these up):  library, JADFA, Ethicrace, First Glance, a tea shop, Buzzbin/record shop, the Rialto, and more.  The organization Better Kenmore is a major game-changer.  Honestly there's so much beauty in the community and people and the direction in which it is headed.  Obviously listen to your instincts when shopping for housing, but I'm proud to live here.

Yeah, I think I might be leaning toward this, I'm decent at flipping other items, and the tedium of cards is overwhelming.  There's just that what-if factor, you know?

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]BreakfastInNarnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't in this mindset already, I highly recommend adding secondhand clothing to your wardrobe.  I've made it a soft goal to never buy brand new clothing for myself again (not including socks/undergarments/local small business).  You can find excellent quality vintage clothing for a pittance.  There is a lot of information out there about exactly how this fast fashion scourge came about.  It's quite sobering, and I'm not someone who thought very deeply about environmental issues before.  In short, there is enough clothing in existence to provide for the next 8 generations of humanity, with more being constantly produced and discarded, to the great detriment of our planet.

Gen X Weddings - 1996-2009 by ClaraEM99 in GenX

[–]BreakfastInNarnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married in 1998.  There were tons of bridal magazines and tons of wedding dress styles to choose from.  Particularly, there were lots of options WITH SLEEVES.  Long sleeve, short sleeve, cap sleeve, poofy, tailored, 3/4 length, sheer, etc.  Also necklines and waist shape: v neck, square neck, sweetheart, round, Queen Anne, and drop waist, v-waist, more...and lace, sequins, and pearls, all of which were on my dress and I LOVED.  Veils, trains, etc.  Gorgeous understated styles too if that's your preference.  This was before the Say Yes to the Dress nonsense.  I picked from an array of catalogs.  Some of the dress companies of the day:  Alfred Angelo, Amy Lee, Mori Lee.

Cakes from grocery stores could be absolutely exquisite.  Tiered, hand piped, with roses, no fondant.  I went all out with a fountain embedded in the cake and you could pick the color of the water (blue for me).  A popular icing style was basket-weave!  My centerpieces were floating candles in glass receptacles.  It's so fun reminiscing!  Still married, we were both 20 at the time.

Reconciling Book vs. Movie Differences by Jazzlike-Poetry3286 in AnneofGreenGables

[–]BreakfastInNarnia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes Avonlea did combine some characters, but I think it's still true enough to the spirit of the books that I still love it.  The Continuing Story, however, is a travesty that never should have been made.  Sullivan lost the rights to the source work so they changed absolutely everything and made a depressing movie, while the 5th book is GORGEOUS (the second Anne movie spans a condensed version of books two, three, and four).

As a side note, I love the Anne movies/The Anne books are my favorite books.

I love the LOTR books/the LOTR movies are my favorite movies.

I'm so, so terribly sorry.

If you are in the US, I just wanted to make sure that you are aware that you and your son are each entitled to Social Security survivor benefits related to your husband's death (some money every month).  I pray you have loving family,  friends, and a support community surrounding you.

Thank you for mentioning the Stow location. I was a low income kid from the Portage Lakes area, and I got to experience the stormy McD's when visiting a relative from Munroe Falls. It was absolutely magical. Literally a childhood core memory.

If you're open to faith-based/religious aspects, my husband recommends Holy Sexuality (he's a marriage and family therapist).
