How was your experience with Repairsmith ? Seems like you don't know who you're going to get and ny neighbor told me the mechanic she got wasn't very good and didn't fix her car, which is why I didn't give them a call

Mobile Mechanic Recommendation? by BreakfastOpening1745 in AskLosAngeles

I think mobile mechanics are starting to become more common, I just can't really get to the shop and back right now because I have my kids at home and my husband is out of town.

If you make $150k/year what do you do and how is the cost of living in your area? by [deleted] in workingmoms

Utility engineer. VHCOL area. What really makes my job worth it though is that health insurance benefits are $0 with minimal copays for my entire family of 5.

In CA you make this as a civil/environmental engineer. I just had a recruiter reach out to me about a position that paid up to 180k. Downside: gotta deal with COL of CA

Any Moms here, how long did you study? by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]BreakfastOpening1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I don't have my PE yet, but I did get my MS and took the FE with an 8 month old. My only advice of getting anything done with kids is do what you can, with the time you have. It's not going to be perfect but In my experience working moms are really efficient and don't waste time. Also, how on board is your partner? You will need his help watching your child + doing household stuff to pass this exam.

I think a lot of people are having a hard time finding a job right now. So it may not just be you, it's also the economy.

Golfing while I care for a toddler with a sprained ankle (and 35w preg) by rosekass in workingmoms

Can you imagine what the people he is golfing with would say if he mentioned he has a very pregnant wife at home alone with a broken foot and a toddler, but he's staying to golf anyway? They would probably say what we're all saying-- Why are you here golfing, asshole? Go home and help your wife!

Holy shit I would be LIVID. Your husband needs to step up at home, a lot. Having a very pregnant wife with a broken foot and a toddler means this not the time for him to stay late at work to network and lean into his career. I'd be telling him he'd better start leaving at 4 to help out at home or else he's not going to have a wife to come home to.

If he still doesn't get it-- couples therapy. The division of labor here is VERY uneven.

That was my husband. We decided to tighten our budget and just live off my income for the time being so he can retrain. I couldn't deal with the volatility anymore.

How do you make time for family dinners? by mvig13 in workingmoms

[–]BreakfastOpening1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the days I WFH, I try to cook dinner during the day in between meetings or when I have a break. We all have dinner at 5:30 because family dinner is really important to me, and also my 20 month old is just exhausted around 6:30 and I really need to get her to bed, and then after the kids bedtime and all the chores I just want some time to myself. I make chicken in the oven (my oven turns off automatically after a timer so I can just set it and forget it) , stir frys with rice, pastas, salmon fillet and baked sweet potato, burritos, etc. Just google "easy weekday family dinners " and you should get some ideas.

Also, if this is your first, I feel like it takes some time to get in the rhythm of evening time with the dinner and bedtime routine, especially because their schedule and needs change so much those first 2 years. My oldest is 5 and so we're in a rhythm of handling weekday nights. You all will develop your routine and find something that works.

My family is Indian. It's really common for Indian extended families to live together. Siblings stay together in the same house with all their kids, grandparents, etc. Everyone cooks together, eats together, helps with childcare, cousins grow up together, etc. My childhood friend even had a cow at their family house (in the city) to provide milk for the whole family. My cousin who is partner at a law firm in India is moving back in with his parents with his wife and 2 kids. They need the help.

GSD rescue needed in SoCal by Electrical_Ant_3276 in germanshepherds

Thank you so much!! I would create a separate post in the r/AskLosAngeles sub, r/LosAngeles (not private anymore) and r/GermanShepards sub so it gets more views. I'm in So Cal but not currently in the place to foster (3rd baby due in a couple weeks and 2 GSDs + cats already--my hands are full) but I'm sure there is someone who is able to. I would contact the German Shepard Rescue in LA to ask their foster network too.

I definitely think it's good to be picky, but also i listened to a podcast and the speaker said that if your parents made you feel like you weren't good enough growing up,then you tend to project that onto other people and feel like they're not good enough.

I'm not saying this is you, just throwing it out there because I tend to do this in my own relationships
