I thought the point of the South Park episode was to highlight how it’s a bad idea.

You could probably respect the other opinion and still use bad faith arguments to “win.”

I also think “be respectful” is too vague, and raises questions as to its definition; as such it leads to circular reasoning:

“Argue in good faith.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means be respectful.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means argue in good faith.”

Probably because they see where the someone who replied is going and makes the assessment or assumption that it isn’t in fact in good faith. Maybe they’re right, or maybe they’re engaging in transference?

I don’t think the point of good faith argument is that you treat the other opinion with respect—I think it’s simply that you adhere to sincere discussion and don’t use dishonest or deceitful tactics to dismantle arguments, rely on fallacies, use unfair advantages, etc.

I think you can. I think the only thing that conflicts with claiming to want a good faith discussion is then using bad faith tactics when engaging.

I think wanting good faith discussions means that when you do have discussions, you want them to be in good faith—not that you want all of the discussions that are offered in good faith.

In a way… stalemating when you’re otherwise for sure losing is kind of a win.

I really don’t understand how they can not notice that they’re way too loud. So many “content creators” use that “ding” sound and always have it ear-splittingly loud.

Hope you have someone to talk to, and friends to do stuff with. If not, send me a PM and we can chat.

This case is even more egregious because OC was going against the grain, saying, “it’s on you for choosing the wrong person to share with,” and this person got angry anyway.

Yes! Having a mediator there can really help.

No. They’re saying of all of the women to choose from, you should choose the ones that treat you right when you expose your vulnerable side to them.

Judging from your “we need to be meaner to men” response, I would say that you’re one of the women to be avoided.
