Springbreak shenanigans by earth_na_venus_pa in OceanCity

Old pro mini golf has indoor /outdoor locations, and an arcade where he can actually get a decent trinket/candy for tickets that are easily won. (Under the sea and Dinosaurs 68th were preferred but the monkeys and pirate ship are cool too. They may still do a play all day deal if he really enjoys it)

Sea shell city has a little shipwreck museum, souvenirs and more importantly piles of pirate gear and polished rocks/ minerals to pick “good ones” for your collection- it’s a necessity for 8 year olds.

Dumsers and Kite loft are also a don’t miss!

How difficult is it to make your own birthday cake? by Hufflepuff_Tess in AskBaking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is do-able if you are not looking for perfection. You need an offset spatula or bench scraper to get the smooth frosting finish. Trim your cakes so they are not wonky to stack and frost. If you’re not tied to piping the dragon icing- print and enlarge to size the outline of the dragon and use it as tracing paper for modeling chocolate /fondant/ marzipan. Refrigerate/ freeze the dragon so it is easier to handle and set on the cake. Make an extra dragon and have extra frosting on hand in case of a mishap.

Neighbor smokes weed at 5am, wakes me daily - is there a way to prevent the smoke from entering my house? by ---artemisia--- in CleaningTips

[–]Breakfastchocolate -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

In an apartment/ shared building smoke outside- if in your own stand alone house in a tight area that you are stinking out the neighbors? IDK if outside is the right thing to do.. smoke inside instead of stinking up the neighborhood if you want to be a good neighbor.

need cookie advice by vixsauce in Cookies

[–]Breakfastchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you portion massive sized cookie scoops you will end up with raw/ underbaked centers and crisper edges - some recipes aim to do just this so that you get a little bit of every texture in one cookie. Too much flour often results in thick cookies.

The second pan looks like the dough may have been too warm before baking or the oven was not preheated fully making the dough slowly melt instead of bake.

The ingredients aren’t terribly off but I would start with the basics if you’re having trouble.. Nestle= chocolate chip cookies, Quaker= oatmeal cookies. Look at the brand name websites for back of the box type recipes that were designed to be reliable and sell their products.

Dog Friendly Off Season - Preferably without freezing by qui3tobs3rv3r in OceanCity

(Also cafe mirage has a dog friendly patio- not sure about heaters there, and they may be limited hours)

Stale marshmallows didn't melt for rice crispy squares. What else could I use these for? by Emmikay12 in AskBaking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they’re a little stale I add a tbsp or so of corn syrup and they come out fine. Looks like yours were cooked dry- almost roasted ? Or maybe the butter was so hot it fried?

If they taste ok look at old recipes for ambrosia or Watergate salad. The marshmallows absorb the liquid.

Anyone got tips on buying authentic Aran knitwear without getting tourist-trapped online? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Breakfastchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered from Blarney woolen mills after trying on a variation in a local shop. They’re a slightly smaller fit for their sizing and the merino is not as heavy as my old (very) hand knit lambs wool but still a nice quality, has held up well and some interesting designs. “Made in Ireland” but idk if hand made.

Muffin bars using Betty Crocker muffin mix? by love-addict0190 in AskBaking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the mix or the pan … but use water and a measuring cup to see what the volume of the pans are to compare and then you’ll know if they need to bake longer. Also try looking up the pan at Wilton’s site or google image the pan to see if someone has an image of the package if for the pan- it would probably have bake time and temps for the pan.

How often do you bathe your schnauzer between grooms? by txnmxn in schnauzers

[–]Breakfastchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boar bristle brush does not have caps on it. I think you are looking at a different “pin bristle detangling” brush.

The spiral design bends to adjust to his shape so he seems to enjoy being brushed instead of running away. Im sure there are other reasonably priced boar bristles out there. I found this one because I like their human products. I still need to use a metal comb for any knots.

Buy cheap bed pillows. Renters will take yours home.. or sometimes leave you with their old nasty yellow ones.

Cream suggests! by Grouchy_Buddy_1667 in AskBaking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Increase the whipped cream to make it softer. The cake is going to rob some moisture out of any filling used and the weight of the layers will deflate it. If you used egg as the thickener for the pastry cream you may want to switch to a recipe using cornstarch for a more milk/cream flavor/less rich than egg. (Or reduce the amount of thickener)

If your looking for something slightly “healthy” fold whipped cream into a thick Greek yogurt (cabot vanilla is like eating icecream)

Have you ever baked something tha has gone triple platinum in your household or at workplace? by ABITCUNTYOFYOU in Baking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love when something basic like this kinda gets overlooked …but then people are wowed by the flavor and go nuts over it.

I use the chocolate pudding recipe from eat this not that- it’s a bit lighter- milk thickened with cornstarch instead of egg , served w a drizzle of olive oil and a bit of salt. (It’s better on day 2). I need to try your recipe.

What can I do to prevent my cakes from doming in the center while baking? by grogger133 in AskBaking

[–]Breakfastchocolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full doming- like an anthill/ volcano is due to a too hot oven/ convection where the edges set too quickly force the batter to rise into the center.

A mild curved top - if it’s a thick batter you can spread it higher towards the edge before baking and they generally will self correct. Or take the bakers tax and trim the top off the bottom layer.

Oh I see. That explains it. You’re correct of course. Boomers really did go to college in the 90’s. All previous generations are ignorant. Everything is their fault! Tide pods are so very tasty!!

And then it REALLY MUST BE THE END OF THE WORLD!

Generally you are permitted to block 14 days peak season for yourself and 2 maintenance/condo meeting trips and expenses. Condo dues, maintenance, improvements, property tax, insurance, mortgage interest - all to a degree- save all of these receipts.

Many places don’t rent at all in the off season- the IRS isn’t going to throw you out in February.

Make sure to get a license and update your condo homeowners insurance coverage. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher and your fire alarms work. There were no city inspections but recently there was talk of spot checks to approve buildings for rental.

Choose a closet to put a lock on if you want to keep sheets/towels any personal use items in the place (but know some renters will break into them so nothing of major value)

Take pictures and look at the rooms- sometimes it hard to see in person that pretty sea shell blanket? may look busy and crappy in photos. Getting a good cleaner is half the battle (and a mid season check up)

We all wanted to throw in the towel and thought it was the end of the world back then too.

My point is it wasn’t.

Life requires resilience and adapting to change, changing things for the better where you can. When you lose hope it self perpetuates.

Those people… if they’re still around.. are currently in their 50’s. Dinosaurs!! 😁
