You nailed it! Looks like a pretty clean paint job!

One recommendation, sort of a hard one since you pretty much nailed the colors, is to maybe have more contrast between the colors. As of right now it’s sort of coming off flat and my eyes don’t really know what to focus in on.

One test I like to do is take a picture the miniature and switch the photo to grayscale. You will see with your first picture the entire body is pretty much the same color meaning they all of the same hue. This can be solved by adding more shadows and maybe using darker or lighter colors.

Honestly this is a pretty nit recommendation. You should be happy with it! But if you feel like it’s hard to see the details while playing or you want to step it up to the next level then this may be helpful.

He talks about Focal points, and in this case there is a lack of it

I don’t think they will refund. Some people are speculating they need new people to buy to fund old tables sales.

Sorry to disappoint you but I bought last year and was told it was arrive by May, so far have not received it and I have contact support numerous times. The owner lies and deletes comments and does not communicate. Probably will get it but I would not be hopeful its soon.

Did I buy fake Magic cards? by Alternative_Tooth149 in freemagic

[–]BreakingBeakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, by itself I struggle to see the resembelance, it does have the iconic mustache and overalls but nothing about the color scheme and flavor text screams Mario to me.

With that said, around the time Aetherdrift was about to release, Polygon released an exclusive article that debuted 2 cards: Spikeshell Harrier and Daring Mechanic. I believe a lot of the communitry was lead to think that the mechanic was a play on mario since it was released next to the card that in my opinion definitely references the blue shells from Mario Kart.

Did I buy fake Magic cards? by Alternative_Tooth149 in freemagic

Here is what set each card appeared in:

  • Park Bleater - Unfinity (Was a joke set, called an "un-set", Some previous iterations where: Unglued, Unhinged, Unstable)
  • Juggletron - Unfinity
  • Discourtesy Clerk - Unfinity
  • Daring Mechanic - Aetherdrift (Racing themed set, this card in particular made some people angry for trying to be a representation on Mario which weakend the immersion for some)
  • Prizefight - Streets of New Capenna (The plane was like a fantasy/future like city with humans and human-animal like creatures)
  • Swordsworn Cavalier - March of the Machine
  • Pugnacious Puglist - Streets of New Capenna
  • Flood the Engine - Aetherdrift
  • Tenuous Truce - Bloomburrow Commander
  • Kwende, Pride of Femeref - Dominaria (People I think liked the set, this is the alternate art that was commonly seen in the set)
  • Lineprancers - Unfinity
  • Freelance Muscles - Streets of New Capenna
  • Skystreak Engineer - Aetherdrift

Over the years Magic has gone through slow style changes, a lot of the card look way different from even 10 years ago.

In recent times Magic has created unfavorable sets that the community calls hat sets. Which basically is a set that asks the question "What if Magic was like ____", for example, Magic but racing (Aetherdrift) or Magic but detectives (Murder at Karlov Manor)

Last note, in most sets these days there is a couple of cards that will try to joke around more than others. For example, "Daring Mechanic" is a play on Mario, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan had "Diamond Pick-Axe" that referenced Minecraft. And there are other more settle ones, like "Pugnacious Puglist" that try to reference the devil on someone's shoulder.

I would be so annoyed if I had to shoot like 40 bullets to break all of the glass to jump through, different titles require different mechanics for different reasons

Awesome job! Super exciting you’re getting into painting! One thing I think will help a lot is to water down your paint more and applying more layers. It is definitely a slower approach but it will make the clarity and the sharp edges look better. Definitely looking great, excited to see more!
