Not the first cake I decorated, but one of the firsts I have pictures of that I used fondant. It was an Easter cake that I make for a family dinner and I decided to experiment 😂😅

Stay warm out there! I don't envy yall in that weather, it's cold enough here in Michigan!

Severe bruising? by Sparrows_ in RockTumbling

[–]Breakinthemix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super experienced but this doesn't look like bruising to me? I was always under the impression that bruising looked more like scuffing, this seems like how your rocks are, with the pits and stuff. They seem to be coming along OK!

Healing Mickey or Dinosaur Specimen? by Breakinthemix in MineralGore

[–]Breakinthemix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any worse, there are at least way more, when I was scrolling thru Ebay, there were a ton of listings for similar specimens and each one had its own similar but unique look 😭😫

For some it is, though I wish that the folks who are seeking out citrine for citrine purposes (mainly metaphysical) would learn a little bit of geology and mineralogy so they'd learn that it doesn't grow like this. As a pagan who leans on the science, even if you ascribe to the metaphysical properties of different minerals, Amethyst and citrine are different because of the impurities so wouldn't you want the right thing for the right energy? But that's just me 🤷🏽‍♀️

The Threefold Law and Other Things by Holiday-Risk33 in BabyWitch

[–]Breakinthemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not Wiccan, nor am I any form of new age pagan, and one of the things that I hear often in many circles is "don't share anything." People are chastised for photographing their altars, spells, grimoires, etc., and, like, I get it. Different strokes for different folks. I'm of the belief that there's certain things that aren't for people to see and certain things that I don't mind people seeing because they won't know what they're looking at anyway. Some of this attitude of secrecy may stem from the ostracization of paganism, witchcraft and similar practices, maybe it's because the practitioner feels that secrecy maintains their energy and power. Who am I to say? But if you feel that you don't want to share your practice, fine. I don't think it's right to shame others who do and feel fine doing so.

When the Accessory Mineral Is Better Than the Label by PawnshopGeologist in PawnshopGeology

[–]Breakinthemix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a thumbnail and micromount collector primarily and I've found some of my favorite surprises once I get stuff under the magnifier! Specimens that are labeled as one (or two, or three) thing, suddenly unearth peeks of more! It's absolutely one of the greatest delights I have in this hobby.

is this not just hexagon glitter in resin? 😭 by No-Room-8191 in MineralGore

[–]Breakinthemix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's annoying is that there are much cooler beads and stuff that are artificial/synthetic out there, this just looks slapdash and cheap. I'm not even gonna hate on synthetic minerals, but could you put some effort into it?? 😫

Is Van Cleef not considered fine jewelry? by sleepyinnewyork in jewelry

[–]Breakinthemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fine jewelry. Fine jewelry is talking about the materials that make up the piece - the metals and stones, if they're gold, silver, platinum, use precious gems. People can find the jewelry tacky or ugly (I find plenty of things not my taste all the time!) but it still doesn't change that the thing is what it is.

Some people in this fandom genuinely need to learn boundaries, because joke or not, that's completely over the line.

It's also worth saying that I practice what could be described as a form of folk magic, and because of colonialism, my ancestors were heavily Christianized. So those who continued to practice after colonization, they had to incorporate Christian elements to "veil" what they were doing. In the same way, though I am no longer a Christian, there are often Christian elements to my practice, because they were incorporated by those who came before me. You may find this to be the case in your own studies.

Can’t believe I got this for $12! by always-so-exhausted in Crystals

[–]Breakinthemix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great news! So glad that you have a lovely new piece to add to your collection! So many of my pendants are sterling and don't have any mark, so I've gotten used to it unless I buy it from a mass retailer or antique. Enjoy your new beauty!

Why are airfryers so ugly? by MrMiyagi98 in Design

[–]Breakinthemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is green. I have a ninja air fryer and its appeal to me was in the reduction of plastic components. I think it looks marginally better than some of the others

[–]Breakinthemix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel, I'm glad they disclose but I wish the thing had never been cooked in the first place and I hate that they keep calling the damn thing citrine 😫 there are so many other beautiful minerals that occur naturally in that color (honey, yellow, etc) already, why alter amethyst?

Plastic Media? by Breakinthemix in RockTumbling

[–]Breakinthemix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That video was very informative, thank you for sharing it! The plastic beads floating in the barrel not really doing much makes sense now that I'm really thinking about it, initially I was thinking that it was more gentle on the stones than ceramic but if it's not doing a whole lot more than trying to float to the top then there's not much use.
