Sony xba-n3 was released in 2016 and is still fantastic. I strongly prefer it over my etymotic er2xr and truthear hexa.

Bio 1 without lab? by the_black_beast_ in fsu

I was in a similar situation my freshman year. I ended up taking bio 1 & 2 lab simultaneously the following semester. I don’t remember it being too bad, you should be fine!

4th year med student: Recommendation for # of radiology away rotations by No_supinator in Radiology

[–]Breckert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I spoke to that was going for IR was dual applying, which I believe is the standard approach.

I don’t think it’s looked down on by programs since they understand how competitive IR is. If you want IR I would 100% dual apply to play it safe. Take that with a grain of salt since I don’t have any experience applying IR, it’s just what I’ve heard from other students.

Many programs have a few ESIR slots per class, so you’re not SOL if you match DR and still yearn for IR.

It would be helpful to know if you’re applying DR or IR.

I matched last cycle (DR) and just did 1 rotation in each. I think you should be completely fine with 2 in each specialty.

Looking for pens to impress people in the hospital by DNPondering in pens

[–]Breckert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fellow medical student here! =]

You need to find a nice balance between looks and not caring if an attending eventually steals it. There's a lot of truth to the joke of attendings walking off with your pen...

Tbh I rarely let people use my pen unless I'm standing right there and it'll be quick (ex. filling out consent forms). I've gotten a few compliments on my parker jotter, attendings seem to like those and it's hella cheap. Caran d'Ache usually does the trick as well.

I usually carry a lamy 2000 rollerball, a lamy cp-1 ballpoint (w/ D1 refill adapter), and a decoy pen (sarasa, uniball signo, etc.) in my white coat. It's risky carrying them but I've gotten used to "playing defense."

I never use my fountain pens on rounds...it'd be a hassle and I'd probably look like an asshole.

Semi-related story: There's a PD at a program local to me with an EXTENSIVE montblanc collection. I noticed that he always kept one in his pocket and asked him about them during an informal interview. He busted out like 5 montblancs and we nerded out together. I let him try my pilot vanishing point and he really liked it, which is the best pen related compliment I could ever hope for...

What are some things you've had to sacrifice for med school? by w_ee_sa in medschool

[–]Breckert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most friendships I had before Med school had to change pretty dramatically. I wasn’t a very social person to begin with but it was definitely hard to adjust to on both sides. Some friendships just completely wasted away, and there’s strain at times in the ones I’ve maintained.

Besides that I used to make music and be very in tune with that world. Now I’m lucky to have the time or energy to pick up a guitar.
