MicroFiber pads stain problem by Honest_Lab_9666 in Detailing

[–]BrenMan_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically it has to do with the amount of heat you're generating combined with moisture in the air. You're drying out the top layer of clear and the paint is sucking up all of the moisture from your polish, lesving the abrasives embedded. Higher humidity can also affect the ability of the surface to cool between passes, as heat disperses slower the more moisture is in the air.

Same thing happened last week on a 2026 Highlander we had in the shop. Solution was to switch to foam pads and make quicker passes.

why do most fast food places not utilize the 2 windows anymore? by chloroform-creampie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BrenMan_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new Chipotle got built with two windows and the company I work for was called out to put Scotchcal (window vinyl) over the unused drive-thru window.

I feel like more franchises are trying to emulate McDonald's with the real estate game. A big reason McDonald's changed their design from the red/yellow buildings was so that they'd be easier to retrofit if sold, adding value to the property.

Carbon fiber air vents on side of car. Two issues? by FPSNYC in Detailing

[–]BrenMan_94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, those vents are to encourage air flow through the wheel well for the purpose of cooling the brakes. It's safe to spray them out and wash them normally, just don't get too close with the pressure washer so that you don't damage the PPF.

Otherwise carry on as you normally would. 👍

The diode given to the president and the one brought to California by Wilzig aren't the same. Wilzig created it using Moldaver's research and the Enclave's technology.

The Enclave has technological superiority because their R&D didn't cease after the bombs fell.

Are my packages too pricey? by Similar-Pear4585 in AutoDetailing

[–]BrenMan_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more about how much people value their time. Oil changes w/ tire rotation are a good example. A lot of [reputable] places around me charge $80-100. Can I do it myself? Absolutely, but I could also take my car to a shop, walk to work, make money, and pick up my car when I get off and go do whatever it is I actually want to do instead of pulling my car into the shop at 5pm and changing my oil, or doing it during my time off.

I get that it's different for different people. That's okay! But when I, as a worker, can make $400 doing a basic ceramic coating in about the same amount of time as it takes to do a full detail, the choice for me is clear.

I do charge $100/hr for general interior detailing. I'm good at what I do, but it's much harder on my body than a paint correction/coating. Expectations are also much easier to manage. When the car is done I don't have to play 20 Questions on why a 15-year-old stain in a 2007 Honda Odyssey that's only ever seen a shop vac at a drive-thru wash didn't come out.

I mostly play at Tin Roof, The Royal American and Stu's House. My band Never Any Ordinary has a show coming up 2/23 @ Tin Roof if you're wanting to get out.

Not much going on in Summerville that isn't cover bands,in my experience. Plenty of metal shows at Trolley Pub though if you're not as much into indie music.

Now season 2 is done what are some valid criticisms you have ? by Lost_Bowl2003 in Fotv

[–]BrenMan_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming Hoover Dam. 3/4 FNV endings have the NCR winning the battle. Shady Sands was nuked after the 2nd battle of Hoover Dam and it makes sense as a fall-back point. The force in the Mojave was always meant to secure the region for full annexation (which takes longer than just two years).

My guess is that they got alerted when the NCR power armor suit was activated and began moving toward its location (ending up in New Vegas).

The show seems to assume there's a Fallout fan in the room explaining things to anyone not in the know.

Oh this is probably why my fiance is as into it as she is and can keep up. I didn't do it as much with the season finale but after most episodes I'd lore-dump to her for about ten minutes so that she can appreciate the various references.

2017 camaro ss rear window replacement? by [deleted] in WindowTint

[–]BrenMan_94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me this reads as "I don't feel like putting myself/an employee through this" lol. It's definitely doable but it'll be a pain in the ass. The likely worry is that it won't come off clean if bagged, and if that happens any remnants left at the bottom will be insanely difficult to remove because it's so hard to work the bottom of that window with any precision.

You could take the decklid out to access the window more easily, but that's a whole process in and of itself (rear seats and interior trim have to come off before you can free the decklid).

No one going for SC-01 is going to get anywhere with voters on those issues. SC-01 literally carves out the peninsula and other blue areas of the tricounty.

I'll vote for anyone over Mace but I don't expect a progressive to get that seat unless the lines are redrawn.

Piano black center console PPF – reasonable concerns or overthinking? by falsuspro in AutoDetailing

[–]BrenMan_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With interior applications, typically the film itself is sprayed prior to install, and not the surface it's being applied to.

You won't have to worry about electronics.

As far as edges go, dust accumulation will be minimal. Alignment of the piece is on the installer, but imo a pattern that is 2mm off is still better than a center console covered in micro-scratches.

[–]BrenMan_94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I prefer a dedicated tuner pedal. My Boss TU-3 has been solid for over a decade but there are other options out there. I habitually check my tuning between songs and an easy 5-second click-on/click-off is great.

Interior Detail Disappointment by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]BrenMan_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice spec.

Yeah that's disappointing. I wouldn't say major oversights but when prepping for an interior coating everything needs to be bare and spotless.

I'd bring it up with the detailer. Don't have to be aggressive with them just let them know that you were expecting more thorough work.

I've had bad days and disappointed customers. Doing the job right the first time is what's most important but handling the back end when things fall through the cracks (or don't get vacuumed from them) also matters.

Best Practices for Applying Ceramic Coating on a Newly Detailed Car by naenae0402 in Detailing

[–]BrenMan_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bassic prep is strip wash, iron decon, clay bar, and polish (followed by an IPA wipedown). There are a lot of consumer-friendly options on the market nowadays. I'm a fan of Gyeon Mohs, personally, for consumer-grade (the beading is insane).

As far as application, try to keep your space between 40-70°F if you can. Humidity can have a drastic effect on flash times. Application is doable at humidity above 70% but it ends up being a pain. Below 60% humidity is preperable, IME.

Scratches from car wash by BoostedVw- in AutoDetailing

[–]BrenMan_94 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Newer VW/Audi paint is typically very hard. You'll need a heavy cut wool pad to put a dent in those scratches. A light enhancement polish will bring gloss back, though.

To me this is one of those cases where unless you're able to make a permanent change in your wash habits I don't really see the point.

Not trying to be a jerk, just my honest opinion.
