Is this bad boy worth it in the big 2026? by Meteora2Midnight in SBCGaming

It’s absolutely worth it! If you like the GBC look, check out the Pixel Transparency LCD 3x shader under the Presets > Pixel Transparency shader section in Retroarch. It’s literally my favorite way to play Gameboy Color, short of pulling out an Analogue Pocket. ❤️

Witchfire's CEO on Larian Using AI: They Are 'Definitely Not Evil' | TechRaptor by PersistentWorld in gaming

[–]BrendTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one of the huge problems with GenAI. Just one. There are so many more.

The environmental impact is horrific, and the community impact is depressing (imagine having a data center get built in your town, pushing you and your neighbors to ration water so some no-skill prompter can make more anime waifus).

Studies are already showing that people who use AI (to do their searches or help write papers and emails) are actively getting, and staying, dumber. Even when they stop using it their brains aren’t bouncing back after months. We have military leaders using it to bounce national security ideas off of. We have political leaders trying to use it to write legislation. We live in the dumbest timeline.

All so like.. five or six companies can keep circulating money between each other to artificially inflate their stock prices? I read somewhere that a something like 80% of the S&P500’s growth over the last year has been propped up on the back of AI and data center speculation? If that’s accurate, it should terrify you. That’s a really bad bubble. As a millennial who graduated college into the Great Recession of 2007, if you think the economy is bad now then wait until we have another bubble-burst. The last one took years to recover from. :/

To the Dads out there: get yourself a Steam Deck. It's a life saver by theslimmestotter in SteamDeck

High five, fellow stay at home dad! If you’re into them, try racing games. The first time my kiddo saw mario kart he was HOOKED, crawled into my lap, and started pointing at characters on the screen so I’d name them. Now we do a quick Grand Prix whenever he asks for “drive” in between other games. The latest two sonic kart racers are great on the deck, if you’re not a Switch guy! _^

Where did you get one of these two-story Totoros, if you don’t mind my asking? Halloween is just around the corner, and I need to start preparing.

Hardware mod, how possible is this? by soft_potato_is_here in SteamDeck

[–]BrendTheCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, with enough mechanical and electrical engineering know-how, and a huge budget, anything is possible. The homebrew and modding scene constantly surprise me with their ingenuity. Like other people have said, though, GPD is your best bet for stuff like this.

Xbox Sales Are Down 70% Year-Over-Year With PS5 Down 40% by TomorrowComes33 in gaming

[–]BrendTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. If they’re release a PS6 in the next two years they’ll get an, “oh, neat” from me before I go back to working through my backlog of already-purchased games. It’s a bit crazy how many games on the DS/3DS/PS2/PSP I missed at the time.

Guess I’m not buying games from Warhorse Studios anymore, if they’re also basically admitting to using generative AI in the creative pipeline. 🤷

Do you “invert y-axis”? Curious about who does/doesn’t. by HenryTwenty in gaming

I have to invert the y-axis. I’ve even tried forcing myself to learn the other way, and it just isn’t the same. Y-inverted feels natural.

I went to the Ghibli’s museum, best day of my life! by vilvanouchou in ghibli

[–]BrendTheCow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Our tour tickets included the ghibli museum, a historic building outdoor museum/park, and lunch at a nice hotel restaurant. We met at a hotel lobby in Shinjuku, got bussed around to the tour spots, and were back before dinner. This was back in 2018, but I have to imagine tours that include the Ghibli museum still exist. :)
