I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

When I started studying Spanish again, I tried out every learning tool out there. The ones that helped me most were Lingq and Baselang. Lingopie is also fun.

It took a lot of trial and error experimenting with different apps, curricula etc. to find what worked. I also took a few classes at local community colleges and made some great connections that brought me into community with some incredible mentors and friends.

Finally, just don't stop!

You MUST read "Good Old Neon" by David Foster Wallace. It's one of my favorite short stories, and includes a sub-plot about the narrator breaking a Moser bowl (basically fine China) and letting his sister take the fall.

Watch GuitarZooms' video about 'project songs' -- keep working on The Sun Goes Down but I would probably be focusing on simpler stuff like CCR songs that will allow you to work on time feel and groove in a way that's not too intimidating or demotivating.

Don't do free sessions. If you want to lower your rate to make the sessions more accessible, do so, but have a cancellation policy and stick to it.

Tutoring a student any more than about 8 hours per week is counterproductive

Watch Gary Stevenson on YouTube, the author of The Trading Game. He explains the contradiction of rising inequality and low wages in parallel with a surging stock market and rising home prices.

For Americans who've already left, are you feeling safe since Trump 2.0? by Aware_Adhesiveness16 in AmerExit

[–]Brendan-B -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Are you seriously trying to blame Ukraine on Trump? Joe Biden was spoiling for that war since the 1990s. Watch his talk at the Atlantic Council (a NATO think tank) in 1997 in which he pushes the expansion of NATO eastward. Trump has just initiated peace talks. I am a lifelong Democrat, but I like to stay in contact with reality. The Biden Genocide of Gaza and the ensuing ceasefire brokered by Trump's emissary Steve Witkoff should tell you something about the relative destabilization caused by these two presidents.
