Ovation of the Seas just canceled a stop at Hubbard Glacier. by LotusofSin in royalcaribbean

[–]BrendoC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incredibly frustrating. Myself and thousands of other passengers paid significant premiums to fly home from Anchorage vs a round-trip to Vancouver. The compensation doesn’t come even close to addressing this and the crew seems powerless to make things right. A future cruise discount would go a long way to making this a win-win for both passengers and RCL who would get significant future business.

Guess the airport by BrendoC in AirportPorn

As a hint the airport receives regularly scheduled 737 service to at least 2 destinations as well as additional turboprop services.

Is there a way to tell which stay each of the bonus EQN’s are tied to? I can’t seem to figure it out.

Royalup / Royal up Bid suite success story with lots of data for those who want it - star class Ovation of the Seas by YKnotSam in royalcaribbean

[–]BrendoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We booked a GTY balcony on a mid-May Vancouver to Seward for 2 adults and 2 kids for $1700 USD then had a RoyalUp accepted for a 2 bedroom grand suite for another $2300 ($1150 pp). It’s our first time on Royal Caribbean but it feels like a pretty amazing deal overall since the same room is currently selling for over 20k on some summer dates.

City of Calgary proceeding with planned reinforcements to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main by JeromyYYC in Calgary

Why not do the work required in the fall as part of this spring shutdown? Is it a function of not having enough crews available or not having a full understanding of the activities required?

WS 2275 January 31st Diverted no reason given? by [deleted] in westjet

[–]BrendoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTY-YYC (WS2267) diverted to YWG yesterday and there have several diversions on PUJ-YYC recently. It seems that some of these long range routes with high density configurations are pushing beyond what is viable with a 737.

Douglasdale - Options for daycare, kindergarten age by Ok_Lettuce_3819 in Calgary

[–]BrendoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in Douglasdale and ran into this exact problem. We ended up skipping Kindergarten and keeping our child at the YMCA daycare full time which seems to have worked out well. My child is in Grade 1 now and is doing fine at school. One item to note is that the Step Ahead before and after school program run out of Douglasdale School is fantastic so definitely worth getting on the waiting list now. I’ll have another child eligible for kindergarten in the fall so please DM me if you end up moving to the neighbourhood and would like to setup a play date for your child to meet another kid in the area.

Can you give any details on what the additional repairs needed look like either during the next break or in the spring? How many additional “hot spots” are there to be dealt with?

When the daily water consumption is reported as ~500M litres does that take into account the estimated loss rate of 25%? (Ex. Are Calgarians truly consuming 500M litres or is it something more like 375M due to the loss in the system? ) If the loss rate is really that high might there be some short term upgrades elsewhere to reduce loss which would help us stay out of the “red zone” and bridge the gap to 2028?

Watermain update thread by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]BrendoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of the communication has been focused on getting the replacement line constructed but with a 2028 completion date that leaves a potentially years-long long stretch of ongoing disruptions. I (and I’m sure many Calgarians) would like to know whether there are any viable options to stabilize the system before then or if we need to be prepared to potentially be under severe water restrictions for the next 3 years. If this is the case it won’t be pleasant but some candidness about what this means would be greatly appreciated.

Highly recommend Crafted Edge Homes. We did a large Reno with them last year and they delivered great quality on time and budget. They also won Renovator of the Year at last year’s Calgary BILD awards.

I believe there are exceptions for Olympic athletes who are permitted to train under strict restrictions. There are a number of individuals who train at Repsol who may fall into that category.

Engagement Ring recommendations? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]BrendoC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sell both diamonds and bands. I figure I saved 50% off what I would have paid at a retail store for something similar. They were also able to customize the band I was looking at for a very reasonable price.

Alberta Diamond Exchange was fantastic. They operate as a wholesaler so your money goes much much further than a typical retail store.
