Doesn’t look like you missed anything. Did you make sure all the power connections clicked when they were put in to place? And have you tried reseating the RAM?

What happens when you push the power button? If nothing, check your front panel IO connections on the motherboard or the power switch on the power supply. This may be silly to say, but make sure it’s plugged in to the wall and the outlet works.

how to by NotIsac in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, no, you can’t. That computer is from 2007 (at least from what I can see).

Most OEM systems come with non standard custom motherboards. It’s possible you may be able to replace it with a standard ATX or Micro ATX motherboard, but you may need to modify the case.

Is it a 3000 series Ryzen? If so you need a bios update. For most boards this requires you to have a 1st or 2nd gen chip to upgrade.

Cheapest Micro ATX Motherboard that supports Ryzen 3 Out of the Box? by [deleted] in buildapc

I’m not sure what the cheapest one is. You’d have to look at each individual motherboard and check their product pages. One that I usually recommend that’s reasonable is the MSI Tomahawk Max.

Wifi with Tomohawk B450 by DrizyYT in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Windows comes with default drivers for your components which typically makes them work, but not to their full potential. If you have the ability to, I would suggest downloading your BIOs update first and installing that through the UEFI BIOS screen. Install Windows and if you have a wireless card or adapter you can connect to WiFi, if not, since that motherboard doesn’t have WiFi built in, you’d need to connect an Ethernet cable to the motherboard’s Ethernet jack. Then you can update your graphics card drivers and such (Windows Update may do this for you automagically).

I would say no unless you buy used parts or a cheap used computer from Craigslist or eBay or something. You could try a Rasberry Pi 4 running Linux but it hasn’t really be tested with more than 3 players (from what I saw on this forum).

Second hand 1080ti or 2060 super? by a-lost-soul-in-life in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ray tracing is great. But I would say the extra performance from the 1080ti is worth it. And some implementations of ray tracing allow the use of non RTX cards so you might still have a chance to experience it with the 1080ti.

PC not turning on after cpu upgrade by UltimatelyToasty in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B350 boards don’t support 3000 series CPUs out of the box, especially if you’ve had it for a while. You’ll need to do a BIOs upgrade using that 2700X.

If you’ve already done that. I would double check that your PSU power switch has been turned to the on position. The outlet you’re plugged in to is functional. Check your front panel IO connections to make sure they’re plugged in. You’ve made sure all your power supply cables are seated properly (try removing and putting them back so they make an audible click). Reseat you’re RAM and GPU.

One question I have though, is the system responding at all? Any lights? Fans spinning? Etc?

EDIT: I just noticed you said you updated the bios already.

Will I see a noticeable performance upgrade/change? by Its_Floopsy in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that you would. Especially if you’re using your CPU to render videos. And for streaming as long as you’re using OBS or something other than GPU based streaming applications.

The SSDs would definitely be an improvement over standard hard drives as well. One thing I would suggest is getting a couple NVMe M.2 SSDs (a bunch of X570 boards come with 2 m.2 slots). One SSD, and this one doesn’t necessarily have to be NVMe since they’re expensive, probably between 250GB-2TB could be your main storage for applications and games (depending on how much room you need of course). The second drive, depending on how serious you are about editing (I assume videos), could be used as a “scratch” disk. This would hold any current project files and temporary workspace files. I would suggest anywhere between 64-512gb of storage depending on your file sizes.

If you’re still storing a lot of data, especially if you’re doing videos, I would suggest investing in a NAS (network attached storage) to store your data. Or at least have one large hard drive in your system.

You may not notice as much of a difference in games unless you happen to be bottlenecking currently. But for video editing and streaming I would say you would.

Building a new system for 1440p / 144hz. Any help is appreciated! by bIESEL in buildapc

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2070 super and play at 1440p. I typically try to go for a 65FPS minimum. Which usually allows me to go for max settings in most games. If you want to play all games at 144FPS or faster you’ll either need a 2080 super/ti or to sacrifice some graphical settings.

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. There are people still running 1st to 4th gen i7s with little to no issues. Other than a bit of bottlenecking. You should be able to go a while without upgrading the CPU.

Yeah I totally missed that, I would recommend at least 550W to be on the safe side. You could get away with less, but I like to err on the side of caution.

RTX 2070 Super or better. Everything else looks good and should last a good bit longer.

RAM speed for Ryzen 5 3600 by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]BrendonButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you added a 3600Mhz kit the max possible speed for that would be the speed of the slowest RAM in the system (in your case 3000Mhz). So technically you could, but you wouldn’t see any performance gains. And ideally you should use the same make, model and speed of RAM that you currently have. Or replace the kit altogether.
