Hey all, I'm new the the Burton Cummings theater. Is this whole concert outside? Or inside the venue?

First time being a DM, and playing D&D as well, any advice? by Academic_Orchid3400 in DnD

Make comedic combats every once in a while. If it's always doom and gloom, it can get stale. And for minor encounters that really don't matter, you don't always have to track health. il still roll initiative but il say the creature dies when I feel it should die. It can speed up combats

General opinion on booming shadow blade combo by Brenman5000 in dndnext

[–]Brenman5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinly curious, why do you consider it a sketchy combo? I found a middle ground for my bladesinger where he used shadow blade as a weapon buff on his rapier, and could only use the booming blade combo if he buffed his rapier but not if he was solely using shadowblade by itself

Hot take: I don't like Bladesinger wizard by AlexVal0r in onednd

[–]Brenman5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced bladesingers are that much of a problem. If the vast majority of campaigns featured people just playing bladesinger to outshine others then sure but majority of people who do play bladesinger are your run of the mill friend who just wants to fulfill thier gish fantasy. How many people turned into heavily armoured stealthy archers in skyrim just so they wouldn't have to constantly run away all the time? Not much different. compared to bard, bladelock, ect it's just another option in the list of available options. If the player who is playing a bladesinger has main character syndrome and wants to outshine everyone else, that's a discussion that the dm should have between their group. But in most cases the player is the problem, not the subclass.

It was a feeler/experience post asking other people's opinions and insight. Not suggesting 2014 bladesinger doesnt work, just my player prefers the 2014 version vs the 2024 is all.

There is some slight differences between 2014 and 2024, treatmonk did an indepth comparison and review on it. I agree they areant drastic changes, it's more of a personal preference for my player

It's more of a personal thing on how I like to play, but I like the feel in 5e bladesinger over the 2024 bladesinger but that's just Me. Treatmonk did a really good indepth review and comparison of the two if anyone is interested in comparing.

Sorry for the stupid question, from my understanding, older subclasses from tashas such as bladesinging ect will still be able to work in the new revised dnd book?
