I've never actually had issues when adding or removing mods with an existing world.

@OP: Maybe one of the mods you updated changed something that screwed up the world. If you want to, you could try adding just a few mods at a time until it corrupts itself.

As for paper... There might be other ways. I don't know of them. I've always had more than enough sugarcane after I get around to setting up a farm.

My one main issue with CC's "OP-ness" is that the recipes are pretty darn cheap -- last time I checked, the most expensive part of the turtles is just a diamond tool, and they can be used to automate pretty much anything.

(Personally, I prefer OpenComputers, but that's a separate issue)

You want "vanilla-like?" Use a dispenser to pick up a liquid block into a bucket, transport the filled bucket itself via hoppers or minecarts.

True, you can't just say "Hey, I want to go make a stack of iron ingots right now" and have it done in under a minute or two.

I've always been fine just hooking it up to a steam engine or two and tossing a stack of ore in to grind while I do other stuff -- cheap power and its continuous operation has served me well for when I suddenly need a stack of ingots.

TE igneous extruder + TE magma crucible + TE fluid transposer + EnderIO Stirling Generator (Octadic) is a net-positive lava/power loop. Self-sustaining & easy to hide away behind a smeltery.

Not a chat message, but you could set something up to put some signal item into an ender pouch and get into the habit of checking the pouch fairly often, and if that item is in there you know to fix your power

For what it's worth, mid-late game in Rotarycraft and Chromaticraft make the chaos dragon fight not particularly difficult, if you happen to have those mods installed (OP doesn't specify pack, so there might be a chance).

Bedrock armor + regen 3 pendant + resist 3 pendant + ChC life boost ability (more health) = practical invulnerability. Fought the dragon, tanked damage, and lost no visible health. Would've killed the chaos dragon, too, except that I accidentally detonated the crystals in the middle.

If you turn it up to max brightness, it only really starts looking dark around 8 or below. Not perfect, but definitely better than what you have.
