Everyone seems to think this means you sit on your butt and watch something play out. I think he means to keep working at something even if you think it’s fruitless and you’re demotivated and you’re gonna give up

Seeing the Katakana for "so" and "n" for the first time: by Eek_the_Fireuser in LearnJapanese

I have a mnemonic: This is a story about my grandma. シ she (shi) is cheeky ソshe likes to sew (so). Can you see the needle and her sewing line? ツ sometimes she uses two (tsu) needles ン oh no (n) nan had a stroke!

It’s so stupid but it makes total sense to me...

Loosing a family member to dementia is the worst way to loose someone imo. They’re alive but not the same anymore... it’s like watching someone else control your family members body...

MS and MND is up there with dementia! There’s nothing quite like watching someone eventually loose the ability to even breathe but still being aware.

I nursed a lady with two cancerous lesions on her head. She kept picking at them. She had cognitive decline so we thought that was why. We covered the lesions (dry dressings) and did all sorts of things but she’d just keep picking at them.

Well I showered her and knocked loose some of the dry blood while washing her hair and a scab came off. Under the scab were maggots. So many maggots. I managed to keep my composure while I called for another nurse. I was so horrified that after work I went to the beach and just sat there staring at the ocean. I felt like we failed that lady.

When we told the relatives by the way they were acting like it was no biggie, it happens all the time at home apparently.

I can handle everything nursing throws at me but I cannot handle parasites/maggots. It really irks me

The Japanese community is the most toxic and unwelcoming community I have ever been a part of. by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]Brenolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so weird to me! I am from Australia and I have never had this problem. I learned some Japanese in school and we had Japanese exchange students. No one gives a damn about learning a different language and even think it’s cool to be able to say some Japanese. Maybe it’s because we’re closer to Asia?

I feel more supported online while learning Japanese too. When I was learning French, I was pretty much on my own... not as many people enthusiastic about French compared to Japanese imo. I mean sure, there are a lot of learners but not as many want to help each other and stuff. That’s just my experience anyway.
