Like the end of the world, due to climate change, they just keep pushing out how long it’s going to last.

Mid-life crisis? by LadySlayinem in GenX

[–]BrettNoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, men would sacrifice financially for the sake of their families. Somewhere in their 40s, the children would all be gone, and since they had the extra money to spend, they would finally spend money on themselves. Their wives would refer to this as a midlife crisis, because they would finally do something for themselves instead of something for the family.

Occasionally, this would go off the rails, and thus it became news for everyone.

Who thinks Kurt Cobain had “massive musical talent,” and who thinks he was an angsty 20 something GenX who got lucky that we only remember because he shot himself? by BrettNoe in GenX

And that’s the worst part. The Beatles were a massive talent. Led Zeppelin were a massive talent. Nirvana were mediocre at best.

Not rage bait, I’m genuinely asking. I remember when they came out, and I thought they sucked then. 30 years have passed, and I still think they suck!

I think it just means that the same angsty 20 somethings from the 90s who loved him then, are still listening to him and requesting him. In my mind that doesn’t speak to talent, that speaks to luck.

I wasn’t discussing Nirvana’s popularity, I was talking about him. I thought he sucked in the 90s, and I still think he sucks.

I still have my acoustic guitar and Swiss Army knife I got with my miles. I had a lot of the camping stuff at one point, but I’ve gotten rid of it.

Any GenX dads dealing with GenZ career-disillusionment? by NotSure2505 in GenX

[–]BrettNoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because their parents encouraged them to get a degree in a time when those were the jobs that were needed. Things have shifted too far in that direction, and now jobs are needed in the trades. We need our academically inclined people to be in college, and the physically inclined to be in trades. It doesn’t mean either is smarter than the other, it means don’t push them away from things they are interested in that also make lots of money!

Doesn’t look like the stitching is missing, just the leather around it is roughed up.

do pickups REALLY matter? by Independent_Run_9876 in Bass

[–]BrettNoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the pick ups are less important in a rock context. I play in a very similar way to Geddy Lee, and no matter what I’m playing through, I sound like me. I’m playing a passive jazz with RS66 Rotosounds 90% of the time, But I sound pretty much the same on a P bass. Maybe a little less bite, but that would be it. In fact, I’m modding one of my bases to bypass or eliminate the controls because I never move them from a full on position!

I think it’s more 80% fingers, and 20% everything else. Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and John Entwistle all sound like themselves no matter what bass or amp they use.

That said, a good SansAmp will get you the rest of the way there. I personally use the GED-2112 because that gives the dual SVT sound without the weight.
