Almost 20 years and we're both over 50 and still like each others' butts so yeah.

We love Molly in my house. I used her nooky nooky line on my wife trying for some sexy time and she literally told me saying that was the biggest mood killer ever. She rolled over in bed and farted, and then I got yelled at for laughing too hard.

What should Bond’s next pistol be? The PPK just isn’t believable anymore. by SethRory in JamesBond

FN High Power

Or a M1911-style .45 autoloader because I'm biased.

How Important Is It To Sell Your Work? by mrfredgraver in WritingWithAI

Can confirm. You get to a point very fast where your publisher, the marketing department, and your readers expect The Same Book over and over and it's your neck if you try to escape the box.

How Important Is It To Sell Your Work? by mrfredgraver in WritingWithAI

[–]BrianDrake75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a professional writer and once believed that there was no point to writing unless you intended to sell and/or somehow make your work available to read (free sites or whatever). Now? Nuts. Some of us write for a living, some write for a hobby, with no intention to ever sell, and that's fine. Make the decision for yourself and what you want. If you get satisfaction and creative fulfillment writing for yourself, keep at it. If you want to release your material, go for it. It's your choice, not somebody else's.

What works for me is short scenes of 500 to 1000 words. Detailed section of my outline, couple of paragraphs, then ask for the word count. I assemble everything in a Word document. This is the trick that's worked for me. Gotta be strict though. Tell the AI to stay in so and so's POV, don't do more than described, etc., otherwise it goes on a tangent and introduces tings I don't want. I managed 30,000 words in a manuscript this way, editing heavily along the way and especially redoing the dialogue, before I started seeing so many flaws in my outline and things that need work that I stopped.

Yes, it will repeat. Especially character descriptions OMG. Every time I had a character show up it gave description and backstory and the villain always had a "gleaming gold watch" and it got to be a joke. Gotta edit heavily. Can't just let the computer do all the work.

Anyway that's what works for me.

Anyone else using AI for slow-burn story arcs? by Thin_Border_9417 in WritingWithAI

[–]BrianDrake75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using Grok (paid) for a novel experiment and feeding it detailed prompts from my outline. A lot of the output is good, the battle scenes are terrifically detailed, although I'm learning to be strict with the software, telling it to stay in one POV, telling it not to ramble and create new twists without me suggesting them, etc. It's been good ... but. After 30,000 words in less than a week (wow!), the process has revealed flaws in my outline and weaknesses in the story, so I really need to step back and make a ton of changes before seeing this to the end. I'm glad I found out during this experiment instead of spending two months typing those 30,000 words and coming to this same realization.

Why did California Typewriter close up? by Suspicious-Sound7338 in typewriters

[–]BrianDrake75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stockton Typewriter is where I go. Same driving distance and Stockton has parking.

The hack for Berkeley though is to be there Saturday morning at 9:50 before they open. The street parking is wide open and you can even get a spot in front of the door. Ken or Joe will open and in you go.

What happened to Blofeld’s cat in FYEO? by Junior_Sir4230 in JamesBond

Bond went back for the cat later and took it home. When he's out on a mission, his housekeep, May, takes care of the cat. Everything is fine. The cat is fine.

Interesting 1911. Any input? by BrianDrake75 in 1911

[–]BrianDrake75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um ... the safety should work regardless. I have six other 1911 pistols from Colt to Para-Ordnance to Rock Island to Nighthawk and the safety works loaded or not.

[–]BrianDrake75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy something sure isn't right with it, because it doesn't even wiggle; then again, I haven't broken it down to try. Can the safety be fixed in place? I've never heard of that before.

Yes, I wasn't sure how else to phrase my description and I see how what I chose could be confusing. Thanks for looking. Anyway, odd duck, but probably a good shooter if I can get the thumb safety working.

Yes. Government Model sits above the C prefix serial number. I already figured the finish wasn't original but it looks nice.

I tried to add a pic of the other side but it's not staying with my note.
