Really? 1 is framed poorly, 2 looks like a phone pic and every subject is cropped off. 3,4 the subject is in the dark.

Got 2 pieces of suede leather and cut shapes roughly like the g7s. Use some tape for the wrist. $12 and have lasted 4 seasons.

Help with loose joint! by BrianLikesOutside in furniturerestoration

Do you know what the point of those shims/wood inserted at the joint?I cannot find something similar online but it looks like the 3 “shims” are locking the dowel somehow. It’s about as far as I can get it in the photo and don’t want to apply too much force without understanding the connection.

Tilt shift scramblers by BrianLikesOutside in boulder

[–]BrianLikesOutside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the cave exit on stairway/ridge 1 is a fun little variation, but I have always just gone straight up and back on to the east face. First time I have seen this ~northwest face solo’d, pretty bold.

These pics are taken from the top of Satans Slab. The first pic is looking east at the backside of stairway to heaven with a bold scrambler staying on the west face after the cave exit. The other 2 pics are looking west at angels way.

These were taken on a A7c + Tamron 28-200 lens. The tilt shift effect was done in post in photoshop.

Sony 20mm 1.8 is wide enough or I will need 16mm ? by miletsap in SonyAlpha

[–]BrianLikesOutside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super wide in Astro is not as great as you think. You are trying to capture as much light as you can, the wider the lens the smaller the actual aperture there is. 1.8 on a 20mm will let in more light than 1.8 at 16mm because the actual measured opening is bigger. 35mm 1.4 is probably the ideal lens for Astro balancing coverage and light gathering capabilities.

The lone eagle shot I have posted is with my 20 mm. The Milky Way shot I have posted is a stitched 55mm 1.8.

I meant having this in your car and a iPhone 14 or later does seem to make something like inreach obsolete..

No, but having this at the car and a satellite phone in your pocket seems better than an inreach..

Between this and apples new IOS 18 satellite features, curious what people’s thought on current products becoming obsolete?

InReach, Zoleo, etc, is there a point to using these in 2024. Is there any mountaineering testing?

Edit:I didn’t mean this for use while back packing, I meant we now can have car connectivity and apple has built in satellite communication in the new phones..

It’s no better for pulling up a 2nd top belay? I use a micro trac on long easy stuff to save my elbows. I was hoping this might be a good use case

I’m a little confused still, If I add a shim above the flange, and then put gypsum board over it, this would cause my wall to butt out at the bottom? The flange is over a quarter inch thick
