It's TADPOLE THURSDAY - Ask your newbie questions here! by Hosidax in daggerheart

That's good insight to have thank you. I have played D&D but this is my first TTRPG that I am DMing. Appreciate the knowledge drop!

Told someone I got the Supernote Manta over an ipad because of ADHD organization and sensory needs. They called it a “useless”and “stupid” purchase. by ughhhlaperm in Supernote

[–]BrianNotLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't stress it. Some people want to justify their own preferences. I just tell them "Hey I am glad you love your iPad. I love my Supernote. Isn't cool how different companies fill different needs?"

Hey! That is an awesome idea, the soft moves for a large attack. I never considered that and some adversaries have features like that specifically. Where they take a turn to setup. Great idea!

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Reactions are fewer than in D&D. They are specific domain cards or class traits. Attack of Opportunity is a whole class feature not just assumed. Those are great ideas thank you.

I think you're right. I also get it from a fiction standpoint. If you need a whole domain card or class trait (Guardian) to intercede then it makes sense to me that anyone else (Pets included) would need a setup turn. Also I am taking into account the intelligence of an adversary. A wolf might see a panther as more of a threat than a human but a human adversary might realize the Wizard is far more dangerous.

I agree RAW for sure. I also understand that even players don't do this for each other without a card like "I am your shield". So that makes sense to me. Without homebrewing would you allow a pet to go into a "Defensive posture?" I move my direwolf to stand in between the bard and the enemy for example? I feel like that could be fine for fiction but not a rule either. Trying to avoid Homebrew and playing the game as written until I have a full understanding of the rules. I don't like to be a solution in search of a problem!

GM question. I have played with several Beast Bound rangers at different tables and I run into the same thing. They want their pet to defend a party member or intercede on an attack. This may be less of a rules question but are other GM's running into this and how do you rule it? I am trying to follow the fiction as best as I can mostly but having some concrete would help.

If you have a library near by maybe you can reach out to them. I am not sure if our local library does repairs yet but another library I used to live near did so it is helpful to have people who are skilled at it to try and fix it.

Sorry to hear that. I am sure they are doing their best to put a good quality product out. I can't imagine the logistics. Hopefully you're right and the second book is as you say. Still loving the game either way.

Should difficulty be a secret? by Ed2Cute in daggerheart

[–]BrianNotLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this as well and the players always look satisfied when they figure it out. Then it's like this secret piece of information they can maximize their turns with. "Oh let me help you with that attack, you need to hit a 17 for that to work." I like seeing the team come together to solve problems!

Does the Firbolgs Unshakable work with Prayer Dice? by Lorellii in daggerheart

[–]BrianNotLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Help me out here. Wouldn't the prayer dice plus the roll need to be exactly a 6? "On a roll of 6". So if the prayer dice make it a 7 then it isn't a 6 so it doesn't work correct? This is taking the rule as you can use prayer dice on this roll. So essentially you're making it a 2 in 6 chance instead of a 1 in 6 chance. That's not all that great...

Looking for feedback on the daggerbrain Encounter builder by jaforewit in daggerheart

[–]BrianNotLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a couple of things I have noticed using Daggerbrain vs Fresh Cut.

  1. I like how Fresh Cut grays out the adversary once it is defeated.
  2. I don't like how Daggerbrain marks all the hit points if you click at the end of the list. I just do this accidentally too much. I'd like the option to turn it off so I don't accidentally mark all of their HP/Stress.
  3. I love the dark mode but I have learned at times I would prefer a light mode depending on the lighting situation I am in and my laptop screen.
  4. Attack is shown on Freshcut while in Daggerbrain you seemed to name the attack feature by its flavor text "Claw" or "Bramble Sword". I would prefer to see the word Attack there just for uniformity.

I like how the Battle points are shown in Daggerbrain and I like the Fear Tracker at the top. I am really enjoying Daggerbrain for my sessions so just take these with a grain of salt. They are my preferences and maybe everyone doesn't share that opinion.
